Swiftboat Veterans for Untruths and quotes taken out of context financed by prominent republicans and the biggest GOP supporters and not really non-partisan at all and composed of a bunch of miscreant ne'er-do-wells who have reputations for stirring up trouble and just really being kind of nasty

A funny thing happened at the POAC office today. I got a tip from a friend that google's cached version of the website georgewbush.com had listed one of the members of Swiftboat Veterans Paid to Smear Kerry, a Mr. Ken Cordier, as a member of the national steering committee for Veterans for Bush. Now Ken Cordier has claimed that he and his group have nothing to do with the GOP. What a great tip off! Swiftboat Liars is busted again! So I checked, and sure enough, there he was.

So I went fishing around for some software so that I could capture the image on my screen so that I could post it for all of the world to read. But by the time I got the software installed, the cached web page had been altered. His name is nowhere to be found. The cache for the website says, "retrieved on Aug 21, 2004 05:19:15 GMT" so the old cache was replaced just today. I didn't know you could alter cached pages, but I guess if you are the feds, you can get almost anything done.

What to do? Well, I dug around and found something better to take a picture of. Click the thumbnail and take a look towards the bottom and see whose name I surrounded with a yellow rectangle:

It appears that this fellow who claims to have nothing to do with the GOP (with the exception of having 100,000 dollars donated to his "group" by the one of

the GOP's top donors) was a vice-chair for Veterans for Bush/Cheney in 2000. You can view the .pdf file of the whole page here.

I'm actually not a Kerry supporter, but I do tend to get nauseated when a bunch of corrupt war profiteers attempt to smear the character of a decorated war hero. I'm doubly nauseated when it's done with lies and quotes taken out of context. I'm completely and totally nauseated when it's done to promote a bunch of chicken-hawks who never set foot on a battlefield.

Update: Well, I guess they know that they got busted. A few hours after this story started making the rounds on the internet the Bush campaign admitted that Ken Cordier was a Bush supporter and served as a member of his a steering committee to help reach out to veterans during this election.
