PNAC member of the week: Bill Bennett |

|
Outed by Washington Monthly for his
gambling addiction, Bennett admitted that it cost his family $8 million. At
the same time, Bennett has enjoyed a lucrative business from the public
perception of his superior moral authority, writing books like "The
Book of Virtues"," The Children's Book of Virtues",
"Children's Book of Heroes" ad nauseam. |
| Bennett was a front man for the phony
War on Drugs which has been an abject failure -- except in pumping up the
privatized prison stocks and creating a ready made slave labor pool for
prison industry. He was in Reagan's cabinet when the perpetrators of
the Iran Contra affair were selling cocaine to our communities and
later became the elder George Bush's drug czar. |
|
Bennett was outraged by Clinton's behavior in the
White House but was one of Reagan's staunchest defenders during the
Iran-contra affair.
|
| A few years back, Bennett
used dubious statistics to claim that gay men had a much lower life
expectancy than straight men. In a 1997 Weekly Standard (owned
PNAC chairman William Kristol) screed, Bennett wrote–in a piece
that was embarrassing even for that conservative publication–that
"The best available research suggests that the average life span of
male homosexuals is around 43 years of age. Forty-three." |
| Bill wrote in his book
"The Educated Child" that there was "no good
evidence that most uses of computers significantly improve
learning,". Years later announced on December 27th that he
is founding a for profit online school called K12.
The company is backed by $10 million in seed money from Michael Milken's
company Knowledge Universe.
Remember Milken? He was the junk bond king at the center of the
Florida Savings and Loan scandal with Neil Bush. |
