Valerie Plame was identified publicly in a syndicated newspaper column by Robert Novak on July 14, 2003 as the wife of former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV and a CIA "operative". Novak reported the information was provided to him by two "senior administration officials." Later, In an interview on CNN, Novak outed the CIA front company that she was working for by saying, "Wilson's wife, the CIA employee, gave $1,000 to Gore and she listed herself as an employee of Brewster-Jennings & Associates. There is no such firm, I'm convinced." Brewster Jennings did, in fact, exist. It existed as a CIA front company providing cover for CIA agents specifically working on weapons of mass destruction proliferation, regarding Iran and Saudi Arabia in particular. According to Vince Cannistraro, former CIA chief of counterterrorism operations and analysis, the front company of Brewster-Jennings & Associates also was used by other CIA officers whose work now could be at risk. Plame "ran intelligence operations overseas," said Vincent Cannistraro, former CIA counterterrorism operations chief. Her specialty in the agency's nonproliferation center was biological, chemical and nuclear weapons and "recruiting agents, sending them to areas where they could access information about proliferation matters, weapons of mass destruction," Cannistraro said. So here we have a decade old CIA front company providing cover for CIA agents working on thwarting WMD proliferation in the Middle East destroyed by a leak that came from not one, but two, Bush administration officials. One has to wonder if Boehner shed a tear over this disaster in intelligence gathering. Considering that they focused largely on Iran and Saudi Arabia, this CIA program would be particularly useful now, as Bush beats his drum for confrontation with Iran. Perhaps that was the plan all along. The Invasion of Iraq Early on in the run-up to the invasion and occupation of Iraq, the Bush administration repeatedly claimed that Saddam Hussein had connections to Al-Qaeda. However, a Senate report released September 8, 2006 concluded from evidence gathered before and after the 2003 invasion of Iraq that Saddam had no relationship with al-Qa'ida and viewed the organization as a threat to his regime. If we invaded a sovereign nation with no ties to Al-Qaeda with the intent to weaken the threat posed by Al-Qaeda, what could be the worst possible Outcome? If you guessed that this botched invasion would serve as a powerful recruitment for Islamic extremists worldwide and put us at a greater risk of terrorist attack, you are correct. World leaders, intelligence agencies, and our own military commanders all agree: The war in Iraq making us less safe and jeopardizing our national security. Refusing to implement the 9-11 Commission recommendations Shortly after the new House Majority Leader Pelosi's fulfilled promise of passing a bill to implement the 9-11 commission's recommendations in the first 100 legislative hours, Senate Republicans with the aid of Joe Lieberman sought to eliminate some of the key points in the bill. Namely, House-passed provisions requiring that all containers on U.S.-bound vessels be screened in foreign ports for radiation, and that all cargo loaded onto U.S. airliners be screened for explosives. This green light for Al-Qaeda to ship explosives and nuclear material to sleeper cells in our cities must certainly have reduced the good Mr. Boehner to a sobbing mess. How we share your pain, Mr. House Minority Leader. I can only guess the reason why you have waited to speak out now against empowering those who would destroy us is that you must have been too distraught. Finally, the obvious: Outsourcing the capture of Bin Laden at Tora Bora to warlords who fought along his side against the Soviet Invasion A document prepared for the Pentagon's Combatant Status Review Board made available to the public through a FOIA request specifically states that a detainee held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, “assisted in the escape of Osama bin Laden from Tora Bora.” The assertion about his efforts and bin Laden’s escape is made as a statement of fact in this document. A Washington Post article from April 17, 2002 states "The Bush administration has concluded that Osama bin Laden was present during the battle for Tora Bora late last year and that failure to commit U.S. ground troops to hunt him was its gravest error in the war against al Qaeda, according to civilian and military officials with first-hand knowledge." So I ask you all, as a humanitarian, let us come together. All of us, compassionate conservatives, bleeding heart liberals, and people who just hate to see a grown man cry, let us work together to remove from power those who have committed these acts and empowered the radical Islamic terrorist forces that seek to destroy us. If not for the love of our country, at least to prevent the House of Representatives from being defiled again by the crocodile tears of a man who would equate the proper functioning of the House with taking the bait of "terrorists". | |||||||||||
