First off, i tried to create an animal feeder that would keep critters out of the garden. It seems to be working. At any given time of day there are bunnies, squirrels, and an assortment of birds chowing down here, but none in the garden.

closer close up. these things produce like crazy

IPB Image

When we had to thin the beans, we saved the ones we pulled and replanted them in a pot, not knowing how well they would do. Here's the lovely Mrs. POAC picking some of the transplanted beans

This is the front half of the garden where our neighbor plants his bonanza of tomato plants. that's our lettuce and spinach row in between

IPB Image

Behind his maters are our lettuce, then peas, then beans

IPB Image

Here's the back half. it looks really cluttered from this angle, but it's not really as bad as it looks.

IPB Image

Here's the back of the garden. The plants in the foreground are all potato plants. We're gonna have a shitload (10 plants)
IPB Image

In between the taters (front) and the beans (back) we have brussels sprouts (left) and broccoli (right)
IPB Image

and then next to them we have crookneck squash and zuccini

IPB Image

all along the edge we have onions (red, white, yellow)

Our peas (pod peas and snap peas)

Behind the tomato monster are jalapeno peppers, bell peppers, kohlrabi, and a smattering of beats

IPB Image

Across from that we have yet more brussels sprots and broccoli

and next to that, the pumpkin fest. the pumpkins we planted are the spooky white kind. We also planted an Atlantic giant that's sup[posed to get to be hundreds of pounds, but it's not doing too well. I left that big bare spot in front jkust in case I needed room for it.

That's it so far.

The strawberries are around back, and though the apple tree is bearing three tiny apples, it's still a baby tree.

Wow Ping! How long have you been working that garden space?
That's a nice looking, well established garden!
POAC
OK, that's pretty fricken sweet. Both of you two. Very cool. Pinger, I can't believe you have melons already. And BIG ones! Ours would be the size of golf balls.

Sky , your pad always looks great. How did you grow a CD tree? I bet Billy has one too.

Sky, a little neglect goes a long way. biggrin.gif The gardens were established by the former resident. When we moved in 2.5 years ago, there were 55 rose bushes. I've whittled it down to 12. Many were planted in shade, so they would never do well. Some were old fashioned ones that were developing into the kind of briar that surrounded Sleeping Beauty's castle. Anyway, a lot of what you're seeing in the back is wild, English cottage garden sort of thing. The vinca (the pink stuff) come back from seed every year, as do my morning glories. I also have salvia (5 or 6 kinds), poppies, lavender, bridal bouquet, Russian sage and some other stuff. I like low maintenance perennials. But thanks for the compliment anyway. smile.gif

TJ, I think you're commenting on the growing season here in Se AL. I am on the 31st parallel, you know.

We had to figure out where to draw the line with the gardens. There's more square footage of them than inside my house!

I use old CD's to make Sun Chimes with.
Wind chimes make sound, Sun Chimes are pretty!
Old Blank DVD's that didn't burn work best.
Also, the Clear ones you get top and bottom on a stack.
Put some fishline weights near the bottom of the string so the wind doesn't flip them around too much.

Just drill little bitty holes, one at the top, one at the bottem, (might try the bottom off to one side, so it hangs uneven) and connect them together with a good thin string. Fish line does not work. It gets twisted and brittle and breaks even though I use fish line spinners too. Then connect them together anyway ya want.

I started doing this after seeing my brother hang singles in his trees. (Most of which blew away in the winter storms) I liked the idea because I didn't like having to throw this stuff away. So I expanded on the single idea and strung them together.

Viola! Sun Chimes!

By the way, the flashing of the CD's scares off birds and critters.
They don't know it's just the sun chimes and get freaked.
