Bush Monitors Tsunami Damage From Texas
Tue Dec 28, 9:03 AM ET White House - AP

By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush (news - web sites) spent part of Monday at his Texas ranch monitoring devastation from a deadly earthquake in Southeast Asia — a replay of his post-Christmas vacation last year when he was monitoring damage from an earthquake in Iran.

Bush sent letters of condolence to Bangladesh, Thailand, Sri Landa, Indonesia, India, Maldives and Malaysia — all countries affected by the Sunday earthquake and tidal waves that have killed more than 22,000 people.

"He's been monitoring it very closely," White House spokesman Trent Duffy told reporters at a briefing here. "He's seen some of the images on television."

On Dec. 26, 2003, when Bush was beginning his 2003 post-Christmas vacation here, his advisers were keeping him abreast of an earthquake in southeastern Iran that left more than 26,000 dead.

Bush also spent time clearing brush at his ranch and thinking about what he'll say in his inaugural speech and upcoming State of the Union address.

"Now is a time for him to, sort of, think about how he wants to address the American people," Duffy said, adding that there were no speechwriters at the ranch. "I think the best way to characterize it is there are some initial drafts."

Speaking of Chimpy's vacation days.......
http://ask.yahoo.com/ask/20031001.html
Dear Yahoo!:
How many vacation days has George W. Bush taken to date as president? How does that compare with Clinton? Vince
West Hollywood, California

Dear Vince:
While the president of the United States is never completely on vacation, most commanders-in-chief manage to enjoy a respite from the daily grind during their stay the White House. George W. Bush seems to have taken this to the extreme early in his tenure as president. A humorous, fake resume for Bush suggests that he set the record for most days on vacation by any president in U.S. history -- a bit of an exaggeration, but still cause for some teasing.
According to an August 2003 article in the Washington Post, President Bush has spent all or part of 166 days during his presidency at his Crawford, Texas, ranch or en route. Add the time spent at or en route to the presidential retreat of Camp David and at the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Bush has taken 250 days off as of August 2003. That's 27% of his presidency spent on vacation. Although to be fair, much of this time is classified as a "working vacation."

Bush isn't the first president to get away from his work. George Bush Sr. took all or part of 543 vacation days at Camp David and in Kennebunkport. Ronald Reagan spent 335 days at or en route to his Santa Barbara, California, ranch during his eight years in office. Of recent presidents, Jimmy Carter took the least days off -- only 79 days, which he usually spent at his home in Georgia. That's less than three weeks a year, which is closer to the average American's paid time off of 13 days per year.

What about Clinton? As of December 1999, President Bill Clinton had spent only 152 days on holiday during his two terms, according to CBS News. A former staffer noted Clinton was such a workaholic that "it almost killed Clinton to take one-week vacations during August." In 2000, Clinton cut his summer vacation short to just three days, so he and his wife could concentrate on her Senate race and fundraising for Democrats. While we couldn't find the exact tally for Clinton's last year in office, it's reasonable to expect he didn't increase his vacation rate. And in barely three years in office, George W. Bush has already taken more vacation than Clinton did in seven years.

Yeah but aren't we safer when he's on vacation, I think that he should take the next four years off, hey Social Security will be safe, the world would be safe...never mind. dry.gif

Much as I'd love to believe no harm is being done while he's drinking, er on vacation, the fact is that Lieboy isn't really in charge. While he chops bits of wood or falls over while on fake bike rides, or chokes on pretzels, (gets drunk), there are still THE neocons running the show.

Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, Kristol, Rummy, Cheney, et al are working away, still busily marking memos, creating new "laws" that call for death and destruction of people across the world, coincidentally filling their own coffers.
Ailes, Scaife and Rover still make up the latest lying blastfaxes for the "media" to spew to the sheeples obscuring any truth that might leak.

And while the Bush family "vacates" their lawyers...The Supreme Court...remain busy devising new methods of oppression here at home just in case we find out too much about what they're REALLY up to using our tax dollars:The rape and pillage of the whole world. Up with the Patriot Act....it shows you are with us and not one of the terrorists. Subversives beware. 20 new radicals to be resubmitted for important justice positions. Sealing those doors shut.

The "work" required of the boy is to get out there and create sound bites and photo ops proving what a god-fearin' righteous good ol' boy he is who is workin' haaaaard and huggin' and lovin' his nayburr. Bubble Boy is insulated by yes men so that he doesn't have a chance to make fuck ups public.

The majority sees NOTHING unless filtered through BFEE goggles. No need for listening devices in the Oval Office...business is conducted elsewhere. Blinded by the right.

Great post Panda, as usual.

Thanks, Doc, you're too kind.

Hey, Doc, remember when the Oval Office transcripts came out from the "recording devices" Nixon used? I actually got my mitts on one of the voluminous books. Expletive Deleted became the "catch phrase" at the time and I had my own bumper sticker made up.....black on yellow...."Expletive Deleted" and had it on the back of my little Honda....yup one of those tiny ones that made my VW Bug look like a tank by comparison. Those were the days when we still cared how many MPGs our vehicles got. I got a lot of responses to that sticker. 99% positive. NOW, it's "W" all over the place and the Merkin flag. At least CA went Blue.

Rover has been careful to not allow recording devices to be found if they are in fact being used. What can I come up with now.....there are so many sound bites that would make good bumper stickers. I'm thinking along the lines of "Don't blame me.....I voted for Dean" since I DID in the primaries despite the DNC/DLC theft of our nominee choices. Or my new campaign for a Blue Party ......made up of all of us who are NOT DINOs but REAL Liberal/Progressives. I'm serious about it. We've proven we could raise MORE money than the RNC.....Dean did it.....he still has a lot of support out here....so does Clark and of course, Dennis NEVER let us down. There's got to be a bumper sticker that says it all, yet supports the troops. Put on your thinking cap. biggrin.gif I've been writing letters to whoever will listen.....nobody....about a Blue NeoDem Party.
The problem with Liberals is that we have so many topics to focus on....the pukes have one....terrorism/fear/nationalism/war.
Now, I'm reading my copy of the "9/11 Commission Report" and enraged all over again about Lieboy's excuses for why he did NOTHING to prevent the WTC etc.

Veering OT.....what else is new? wink.gif
Vietnam Vet friend of mine STILL having trouble getting VA help with ailments caused by Agent Orange and another VietVet who has leukemia now....attributable to handling AO for two tours of duty over there. He's dying so the VA tried to wait him out.....but he's still alive and they finally decided to give him a couple of bones to shut him up.....he'll die this year. Irony, he had made it through two years of law school but now he's skin and bones, can't even tie his own shoes so got Velcro closure ones, many more ailments, and it's affecting his brain.
How many troops are still suffering since Iraq I.......and will suffer more from Iraq II? In the meantime......fuckface, aka Shrub.....doesn't give a shit about the troops and it's REALLY pissing me off.

There's GOT to be a way to unite all of us out here who feel so disenfranchised by BOTH parties but who won't go Green due to its history. Blue? Whatchoo think? I believe it's an idea whose time has come. But then, I'm nuts. eek.gif
Dr. Left
So true Panda. I think you are right, we need a new party, one that represents both the Greens and the true Democrates/Liberals. I'm tired of the right and their two dimensional issues, I'm sick of them taking the higher ground when it concerns morals, and I hate the bastards wrapping themselves in the flag and implying that because I'm a liberal I'm not patrotic enough. I've served most of my life for this country, and made many sacrifices for this country, most of them never served but love war. I hate them Panda, I hate them with all my heart and soul.
