POAC
Actually, it may have been last week. ANd actually, it was online in another form for a few months before that. But officially oldamericancentury.org and .com are now 4 years old.

To celebrate I'm going to break down and take advertising. I'm not sure who yet. I'd like the Newsmax floorhumper guy for starters. Or maybe I'll put up an ad that blames liberals for rith wingers not being able to get laid:

Good, maybe then i won't have to keep this two bit operation afloat. biggrin.gif

As for advertising, i would suggest you look into political candidates that you like and have them advertise on here. Just go to RawStory, they have all of those liberal ads.

Seems to me the site went all the way down about a year and a half back, and was reborn.
So I guess POAC still has a few lives left!

Happy Anniversary!

It wasn't an intentional stand up. We were having storms last night and I couldn't keep a good connection on my crappy dial up connection.
I did get in once or twice but it would just disconnect like a million times in a row until I was pissed and just quit.

And that was so funny, so you BETTER LAUGH!

Congrats POAC! Advertising won't hurt anything, as long as these guys aren't your sponsors.

Bush 'planted fake news stories on American TV'

Federal authorities are actively investigating dozens of American television stations for broadcasting items produced by the Bush administration and major corporations, and passing them off as normal news. Some of the fake news segments talked up success in the war in Iraq, or promoted the companies' products.

Investigators from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) are seeking information about stations across the country after a report produced by a campaign group detailed the extraordinary extent of the use of such items.

The report, by the non-profit group Centre for Media and Democracy, found that over a 10-month period at least 77 television stations were making use of the faux news broadcasts, known as Video News Releases (VNRs). Not one told viewers who had produced the items.

"We know we only had partial access to these VNRs and yet we found 77 stations using them," said Diana Farsetta, one of the group's researchers. "I would say it's pretty extraordinary. The picture we found was much worse than we expected going into the investigation in terms of just how widely these get played and how frequently these pre-packaged segments are put on the air."

What about oldamericancentury.xxx?

So TJ, tell us, how did this who thing come about. On one day in 2002, did you spend all day mumbling to yourself, acting disturbed, talking about doing something? Then at one point you said "I got it!" while jumping up in the air? Then you stayed up all night planning everything out "we can have t-shirts, and news, and a place to talk about things" you said. Then, early in the morning, your stood up, rubbed your unshaven face and said "its done...its done."

Is that how it went?

Holy SHIT! It's not even that old, is it? Less than a year? July of 2005?
This is a real eye opener. I had no idea...$173,878.32
And she charges this much for ads. eek.gif
Duration
1 week ($125)
2 weeks ($200)
1 month ($325)
3 months ($850)

Tj, congratulations!
Add those ads, it's time, definitely time!

You should be a gazillionaire in a couple of months. smile.gif

POAC
Panda, if i make even, I'll be happy. If I'm a bazillionaire I'll buy us all a beer. Maybe two.

Jack, The POAC started as just me sending about 10 news stories a day out to my friends that I felt people should know about. Most of it was disproving the popular misinformation in the press about the upcoming invasion of Iraq. Also some stuff about the corruption of the Bush family and what was between the lines of the PATRIOT ACT and the Homeland Security bill. I kept all of the links I was sending out, as a reference for myself, and eventually started a yahoo group so people could sign up and encourage others to get my daily mailing.

We had about 100 members and I thought it might be good to try to make an actual webpage that you could search better and have better organized. My ISP at the time, earthlink, gives you free webspace, so I started learning frontpage 2000 and html and put one together. It did OK, not too great, but then I outgrew the space and bandwidth limits and bought the domain we have today. The rest is history. =-)
POAC
oh yeah, the t-shirt sales idea came up when our assetts were seized and the forum began when the wingnuts ffrom conservativeunderground freeped the Mike MAlloy forum. I made ours as a temporary place to talk until the webmaster at MM got the place cleaned up. It took so long that most of the people on the POAC forum didn't want to go back. So I was kinda stuck with it. I'm glad I did.

As I checked out the New Graphic thread yesterday I was thinking that you're a very talented guy that I really don't know much about. How about a brief bio? If you've alredy posted one point us in the right direction.
POAC
I haven't done a real bio, so to speak. There's not much to tell. I'm just a regular joe. If i ever get through trying to get this javascript that I'm working on to function, I'll see if I can't write something up. But don't count on it. I'm about to put my fist through my monitor and it looks like this will take me well into the evening.

Without having to go into the whole background of the situation, I'll give the short version. I hade a seven year old credit card bill that wasn't paid off and the CC people seized all of the money in our checking account and put a lien on it for several thousand dollars. I didn't think anything about it was political until I talked to some other owners of liberal/progressive sites and organizations, and several of them had the same thing happen to them. There were some other things going on at the time that kinda filled in the blanks for us that led us to believe it was politically motivated.
