I heard a "blip" on C-span about this today and thought I'd check it out a little, apparently it's a bill that will be coming to the House soon. It's long been argued that the citizens of the District of Columbia should be represented in the congress, same as everybody else. They vote, pay taxes, go to war etc. They may soon get their chance but only IF Utah gets another seat. Utah's additional seat would be specially categorized as an "at large" seat. The rationale is because the DC seat would almost surely be Democratic that another Republican seat should be created for "balance". WTF, the people of DC can only get their citizenship rights if some special allowance is made to help Repubs maintain one party rule? This link is a year old but the issues remain the same.

Sooner,

If the Repugnicans had their way, they would redefine the voting districts of the entire country
ala Texas and Tom Delay!

It's CLEARLY a Republican tactic, and just one of hundreds of reasons why
THE REPUBLICANS MUST GO, AT ANY COST!

If voting the issue means Republicans don't get a big boot in the back side,
then we've all lost!

There's more to this... Utah, the Mormons are their demographic, they must be really huge powerbrokers within the Republican Party:

"The march of the Mormons

The Latter-day Saints are on the rise in the US, and a Republican named Mitt Romney has hopes of becoming the first Mormon president...."

Fuck that.

Fair and ballanced comes through leadership, not redistricting.

MoFo Repugnants will stop at nothing to gain seats.

I can't believe you guys are surprised. This is how Politics surrounding House and Senate seats has always been in the U.S.

Remember the Compromise of 1820? 1850? Remember "Sectional Crisis"? Remember how the Republicans planted the flag in deserted territory in the Mid- and South-west from 1850-1900 to grab as many Senate and Congressional seats as they could? Remember how the old Democrats used to use every tool in the book to maintain their Southern hegemony before the 1920's? Remember how Utah "coincidentally" became a State about two years after the Mormon Church decided to outlaw polygamy? Sound familiar?

It's an old story really.

Thank you Libertas, We do tend to forget perspective.

As a Mormon, I can tell you we have no power within the Republican Party. In fact, Evangelicals hate us more then Liberals, they think we are an a cult and that we worship satan or some other variant. We were Republicans before they were and I am suprised Mormons even talk with them after what they say about us.

Oh and by the way, guess who the largest demograph of polygymist are? You guessed it...Evangelicals.
