Dear MoveOn member,

Have you heard about the May 15th deadline to sign up for the new prescription drug program? Most Americans haven't. But in less than 2 weeks, President Bush and Congressional Republicans are preparing to slap as many as 14 million seniors with heavy, lifetime penalties because they haven't joined the bewildering new program.1We need to stand up for our seniors.

So today, we're launching an urgent petition calling on Congress to cancel the May 15th lifetime penalty (also called the "senior tax") and to fix the Medicare drug program. It's time to put seniors' needs above corporate greed.

We'll rush your signatures and comments to Congress before the clock runs out next Monday. If enough of us speak up on this politically sensitive issue, we can help push Congress to act before it's too late. Please sign today:

Please educate me.
Exactly what is the penalty?

I have family who have sworn to have nothing to do with Bushco's Medical Plan!
Are they in some sort of jeopardy?
Or will they have to pay extra is they wanna use it sometime later?

Alrighty then,

QUOTE
The study showed that 47 percent of the respondents didn't know there is a late enrollment penalty. The penalty amounts to 1 percent of the average monthly premium for each month of delay. Since seniors who miss the deadline can't sign up until the next open enrollment period in November, they would face about a 7 percent increase in their monthly premium.

There is no penalty if you choose to not sign up.

Scuse me if I seem a bit daft, but whay have a deadline?
Why not increase the cost to new signers as it's indicated, andnot make a big stink about it?
And while yer at it, why not make this thing simple enough for old people to deal with, and not get a brain cramp?

Good ol Bushco. If they can make it more expensive, or complictaed, or just not work, they sure will!
20 years ago if you told someone this would be the Republican economic strategy, you'd have been laughed at!

I've heard him asked that twice now. His brilliant answer: "deadlines are important." So says the decider, hope his deadline is fast approaching.

When we signerd up Mikes mom, they said after a certain date, they would not compensate for the drugs bought prior. Before the deadline they would reimburse a month for lapsed coverage.

The whole new system is a cluster fruck.

That's my question for my Dad too... because he ain't asking questions for himself because, like yours, he's sworn it off! But I told him he has to do something or else... he never likes me to tell him stuff like "or else" without facts and figures ... but knowing him he'll pay the "senior tax" just to spite Bush! rolleyes.gif

And that's putting it mildly.
Once you get through the hoops and hurdles, and never EVER change medications, then you're set, pretty much.

This Bushco is no better than pyramid scammers... they are doing all this bait 'n switch confusion illusion to rip-off seniors or make them think their losing something if they don't "plug in to the system" tinfoilhat.gif ... and then they probably will be damned if they do or damned if they don't, or simply not know one way or t'other, but someone's making a buck, and something tells me its not my Dad sad.gif

Dear MoveOn member,
It's been quite a week in our campaign to cancel the May 15th Medicare "senior tax" and fix the drug program. On Wednesday, we presented over a 150,000 signatures and comments to Congress and the national media at a major rally in Washington DC. And Yesterday, thousands of us gathered outside over 100 Republican Congressional offices in 38 states. Thanks to your great work, we were heard.
Yesterday's events were a big success. We delivered giant checks representing the amount each representative has taken from the major drug companies in exchange for this corrupt program. And we spoke out, often to television, radio, and newspaper reporters, demanding that Congress cancel the lifetime penalties and fix the drug plan. (You can see some more great photos here).
With just a couple days left before the deadline, there's still time to act. Can you take a minute to write a letter to the editor of your local paper? If you submit it this afternoon, there's a good chance it could make the Sunday edition—the most read paper of the week. You can see some talking points, write and submit your letter online here:

Members across the country reported having a great time and making a real impact. Here's what some members had to say:
The best moment was Rep. Shaw seeing us hold the check up as he went to lunch.
– Jewellene W. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
After our moving senior speaker, the local news team, WCBD channel 2 (NBC), who was filming the event for tonight's news, told us that they want to do a follow-up story with one of our local seniors at their residence so they can see first hand the cost of the new Medicare program.
– Tara G. North Charleston, South Carolina
My best moment was showing my daughter that her representatives are available to listen to constituents.
– Carrie S. Grand Rapids, Michigan
Reports are still coming in, but it's already clear that your events helped to generate some important news stories in many key areas. Here's a sample of the excellent coverage you helped to create:
More than 20 people yesterday protested changes to Medicare prescription drug coverage at the district office of Rep. Darrell Issa. Organizers said the protest was part of a nationwide effort organized by MoveOn.org.
– San Diego Union Tribune1
An 81-year-old Germantown women's rights advocate will be among the MoveOn.org members targeting U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., today in an effort to have the Medicare Prescription Drug benefit deadline extended.
– Memphis Commercial Appeal2

Pressure is building on Congress to take action, but it's still not clear what will happen on Monday. This weekend, Congress will be scouring the press to gauge concern amongst the general public. If you can write a letter to the editor for this weekend's paper, calling on Congress to support canceling the lifetime late fees and fixing the drug program, you could help tip the balance.
It only takes a few minutes. You can write, and submit your letter online, by going here:

Thanks for all that you do,
–Ben, Natalie, Matt, Justin and the whole MoveOn.org Political Action team.

That is just terrible. I signed the petition and came back to spew venom over the dirtbags on Capitol Hill. They all need to go. Almost all anyway. a few good eggs are left. I don't care which side of the aisle they're on their hands are out, their hearts are closed and so are their eyes.

I talked to my Dad ... he decided not to sign up and this is why (DISCLAIMER: this may or may not work for your parents ! unsure.gif ) . He said that Bush is just scaring seniors into signing up. (sound familiar?) He said the penalty is 1% , which for him is a whopping 27 cents per month! He has enuf medical coverage from Medicare and AARP, so he went down to the VA a couple of days ago and signed up for their coverage just to get the meds (no premiums, just signed up!) He doesn't know if its for all Vets or just wartime Vets (he is WWII) .

So if any of your parents/grandparents are Vets , tell them to call VA as well as Medicare Part D before Monday.

PS OR have them call these offices 800 #'s ON MONDAY, if they are closed this weekend. Have them try dialing this Sunday anyways, just in case!

If they let ME be in charge for a day or two that's the FIRST thing I'd get rid of...I might give it back to the assholes if they passed universal healthcare for ALL. Until then, they should see what the fuck it's like out here in the real world. One major illness...we're screwed.
Yeah I heard that asshole saying there have to be deadlines. And I also heard him telling a woman during one of his lying speeches that it was her responsibility to help her mother. Fuck you, Lieboy from HELL!
