Subject: AMAZING TWINS...WOW!

A mixed-race British mom gave birth to twins recently - one of each.

No, not a boy and a girl. Two girls - one black, the other white.

The odds of such a birth are about a million to one, experts said.

I hate to play the skeptic, but there are a few things that I find suspect here.

First, those girls are pretty far from "recently born."

Secondly, the two adults look the same colour to me. How did they get a Nicole Kidman blondie child?

Ok, Mr. Skeptic.

Here's the full "analysis" of this being an urban legend (it is not, it is in fact, true!)

Comments: The preceding images, credited in news stories to freelance photographer Gary Roberts, are authentic, as are the subjects, twins Kian and Remee Hodgson of Nottingham, England.

According to a February 21, 2006 article in the London Daily Mail, Kian, who is dark-skinned and dark-haired, and Remee, who is light-skinned and fair-haired, were born in April 2005 to Kylie and Remi Hodgson, who themselves were born to mixed-race parents.

While very rare, the phenomenon is not unknown, though it does entail a very particular combination of circumstances at the moment of conception. First, both parents must be of mixed race. Second, the twins must be fraternal (each conceived from a separate egg fertilized by separate sperm) as opposed to identical (both conceived from a single egg and sperm). Third, each sperm and egg must carry the genes for a particular skin color (i.e., black/black or white/white).

The odds against it are indeed a million to one.

The Link for you skeptical punk! hehehe

Not to mention, many caucasian children are born with light hair, which ultimately turns dark as thay age. So the blond part is inconclusive in your agument.

There is no race gene- nither unary or binary. Race isn't determined by a gene or two. It is the product of a paturn of many thousands of genes. It is true that mixed race people get half of their genes from each of their parents but, each particular gene can come from either parent. Mixed people aren't simply half and half, they are "blended" completely.

That means the odds of any mixed couple having a non-albino white baby is far more then one in a million. Try one in many billions- or even trillions.

A more likly senario is that the "white" baby has a different ("white") daddy.

I can see it happening with only fraternal twins, not identical. But I didn't realize that it would still be that rare. Fraternal twins rarely look alike.
