Running on a simple smear campaign isn't enough.

In Canada the Liberals tried to run the last election based on "Don't vote for the other guys" and they got slaughtered.

The Conservatives ran a no-nonsense, back to basics campaign that focues on issues, and not attacking the other parties.

I think that the slogan should be more progressive and about fixing what's wrong with your country rather than a smiple attack on the President.

Hmmm, good insight worth carrying across the border biggrin.gif ...I wonder why Karl Rove is able to get-away with "attack and win" though? Are those days over?

Unfortunately, any intelligent message about issues is probably too long to put on a bumpersticker.
In retrospect maybe the best one I've seen is the:

"HAD ENOUGH?" one.

Its hard not to want to fight dirty, but then one becomes exactly what they despise. It does seem that they always win, because they fight dirtier, and libs are spineless wimps. But there is something to be said for the high road.....

I agree. For a bumper sticker, you need to keep it simple.

I was thinking more in terms of an overall campaign message. Apologies for the mishap.

I think that "attack / smear" tactics can be effective for a short term basis. In the previous election in Canadad (the one we had about 19 months ago) the Liberals were able to carry through a minority gov't by using "we've fucked up, but the other guys are worse" style campaigns, and it worked. However, they only carried a minority.

In the recent election, Canadians had had enough attack politics. In fact, most news outlets called the Liberal smear campaign an "American-style campaign" (their words, not mine), but this time Canadians weren't buying it, and voted in a Conservatie minority on the back of their "issues based campaign."

I agree with you wire that it's easy to go for the attack, however, the Dems need to keep the high ground. If you lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.

Notice that no one is too crazy about the Dems' choice: Together, we can do better.

UGH. I definitely think they could have done better. Bleah.

I still believe that if the Dems go 100% attack, and use simple things like "Had Enough?" they'll lose.

The Repubs could just keep the moral high ground and stick to the issues. The Dems will just look like petty, attack politicians.

Stick to the issues.

Scorp.

My attempt is to not change any minds or educate anyone,
especially as they drive down the freeway after work!

I want to put out a couple of very simple concepts,
and let the rest happen in their minds from that as it will!
Those who do not agree, at this point, not much will ever change their minds!
What's left who still support the pResident are the true Repug die hards!

Most of us have plenty of our own reasons to feel disgusted with Bushco.
I ask, "HAD ENOUGH?" to what to most people is plain and already obvious.
"IMPEACH!" is little more than the next step in a normal progression of logic.

I have decided to make that step visually because right now most Americans are making that connection for them selves!

The arguments have already been made.
The list is extremely long!
Those people who want to consider that list, have the internet.
Those who do not, have the simple phrase.

Had enough?
Impeach!

What mental images come into your mind?

IMO, the Dems need several slogans,
backed up by page after page after page of indepth answers and solutions!

Ok , I get it, what the people do > go for it!

But your concern is about "official" slogans, keep 'em issues oriented, right?

Instead of worry about some stupid slogan, why dont they just start acting like Democrats? That alone would change more hearts then some stupid words that sound pretty. ACTION has always had a bigger impact.

You're missing the point here MM.

Nobody is claiming that they shouldn't act properly, however, a slogan is still imporatant. It's the marketing strategy for the party. In modern politics, image is just as important as what you do.

Case in point. In the last Japanese federal election, the ruling party (LDP) campaigned on a single issue, using easy to understand catch phrases, and keeping the debate centered around a single issue.

The opposition parties (there are about 5 of them) tried to broaden things and talk about lots of stuff.

The Japanese people re-elected the LDP with a landslide, and most people agree that it was because even though they didn't have as much information as the other parties, they kept it simple and were able to win the TV battles and come off looking much more "cool."

Oh no, I got the point Scorp, I just think its stupid.

It is going to take a little more than a slogan to help the Democrats win. The best thing they have going for them now IS the Republicans themselves. The pendulum of power may swing back their way, but not because of anything good these Democrats have done themselves. I hate the Republicans, but these Democrats are so lukewarm and conflicted and unsure and wishy-washy that you really don't know where they stand, on anything. They say one thing and vote contrary to it, leading people to the conclusion that they really don't know what they want. Who the fuck can trust someone like that? They cut their own throat in elections and then we blame on diebold machines. Go figure.
