Karl hasn't completely left Bush's staff.
He's just given up the role of policy advisor.

Karl Rove Gives Up Policy Work;
Conservatives Cheer

It’s hard to say anything bad about Karl Rove. But ever since he took on the expanded role of overseeing policy, President Bush’s team has had a string of disappointments. So it comes as a relief to learn that Rove will be stripped of his policy portfolio, reassigned to focus exclusively on politics.

Our sources inside the administration have been critical of Rove’s handling of matters large and small. Starting with Social Security in 2005 and culminating with the widely panned State of the Union address in January, Bush’s team seemed to abandon conservative ideas.

The biggest policy disappointment under Rove: a national energy plan. With Republicans primed to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling last year, the White House completely dropped the ball. Then came Bush’s “oil addiction” remark in the State of the Union address, which did more damage to ANWR drilling than any Democrat could have done.

  • Jim Towey: head of the White House office of faith-based and community initiatives. Resigned 4-19-06. Towey is responsible for ensuring that billions of federal dollars went to religious charitable groups; this is something clearly in opposition of the separation of church and state.
    Ray Martinez: Vice Chair of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Resignation effective 6-30-06. He resigned because of the alarming erosion of American voter confidence after the last two presidential elections.
  • Scott McClellan: White House Press Secretary. Resigned on 4-19-06. Lie master and enabler of Bush’s constant denial of truth and helps protect the unreasonable secrecy of the current administration.
  • Karl Rove: Bush’s Brain. Demoted on 4-19-06. Karl Rove's reputation for political skill is such that, among both his supporters and critics the phrase "Rovian" has come to be used as a synonym for "Machiavellian".
  • Michael Brown: Director of FEMA. Resigned 9-12-06. Completely mishandled response to Hurricane Katrina. Previous qualification for this job was being the Judges and Stewards Commissioner for the International Arabian Horse Association. Shortly before his resignation Bush is quoted as saying “You’re doing a heck of a job, Brownie.”
  • Andrew Card: White House Chief of Staff. Resigned 3-28-06. Card is known to have headed the White House Iraq Group (WHIG), whose members include Karl Rove, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Condoleezza Rice, Karen Hughes and Mary Matalin. This group is known for controlling public relations for the Iraq War. Most famous for being the person to whisper in Bush’s ear that terrorists attacked the United States.
  • Colin Powel: Secretary of State. Resigned 1-23-05. Powell's chief role was to garner international support for a multi-national coalition to mount the invasion. To this end, Powell addressed a plenary session of the United Nations Security Council on February 5, 2003 to argue in favor of military action. Citing "numerous" anonymous Iraqi defectors, Powell asserted that "there can be no doubt that Saddam Hussein has biological weapons and the capability to rapidly produce more, many more." Powell also stated that there was "no doubt in my mind" that Saddam was working to obtain key components to produce nuclear weapons.
  • Paul O’Neill: Secretary of the Treasury. Resigned Dec. 2002. O'Neill's private feuds with Bush's tax cut policies as well as his push to investigate al-Qaeda funding coming from the United Arab Emirates led to his resignation in 2002 and replacement with John W. Snow.
  • John Ashcroft: Attorney General. Resigned 2-3-05. Ashcroft was a key supporter of passage of the USA Patriot Act. It is believed that Ashcroft requested that certain provisions be re-written to provide stricter enforcement of anti-terrorism laws. One of these provisions was the controversial Section 215, which allows for warrantless seizures of patron records from libraries and seizure of bookstore customer records. Ashcroft referred to American Library Association opposition to Section 215 as "hysteria" in two separate speeches given in September, 2003. During his tenure at Justice, Ashcroft consistently denied that the FBI or any other law enforcement agency had used the Patriot Act to obtain library circulation records or those of retail sales.
  • Tom Ridge: First U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security. Resigned 11-30-04. Created the color-coded terror alert system.
  • George Tenet: Director of CIA. Resigned 7-11-04. The resignation of both Tenet and CIA Deputy Director for Operations James Pavitt in June 2004 may be related to this failure to find the WMDs that the United States used to justify invasion.
  • George C. Deutsch: writer and editor in NASA’s public affairs office in Washington. Resigned on 2/8/06. He told public affairs workers to limit reporters’ access to a top climate scientist and told a web designer to add the word “theory” at every mention of the Big Bang. He also got his job on a resume where he lied about holding a degree from Texas A & M. This shouldn’t be surprising though, he worked on Bush’s reelection campaign, surely this was the real reason this 24 year old was appointed to such a position.
