It is rare to see things like this in my local newspapers:

Letter to the editor of one newespaper:

Is the nation’s media liberal or conservative?

We regularly read letters from conservative contributors charging that the media are liberal-biased. But is this a fact? Are news broadcasters actually left-wing progressives? Or are such allegations merely a simple-minded way to reject commentary you don’t happen to agree with?
A study just completed by the media watchdog group, Media Matters, documents every Sunday morning political program on ABC, CBS, and NBC over the last nine years. Of nearly 7,000 guests who appeared during the administrations of Presidents Clinton and Bush, between 61%-69% were right wing! And prior to the 2004 Presidential election, it approached 80%!
While these findings should once and for all debunk the liberal-bias myth, they won’t; future letters to the editor will undoubtedly continue to perpetuate the myth of the “liberal media.”

One newspaper runs a section called "Street Talk." This week the question was "What characteristics do you look for in a political candidate?"

This comment made me biggrin.gif : "Honesty, and Bush isn’t."

Certain cracks are beginning to show here too. Like this -

Phooey, they haven't updated their page yet. Anyway, a letter to the editor today from a person just beginning to see that Bush is bad. In this case talking about cutting domestic budget items, specifically something about money for refurbishing sewer and water systems. The person seemed very passionate about it. The person asks why Christians aren't opposing these domestic cuts that would harm the old, the sick and the poor.

If I see anymore "local progress," Pinget, I'll post it in this thread. Please do the same, if you will. I think our parts of the south are pretty similar....

Will do. smile.gif

I know the staff at the local paper 'get it'. They've been threatened by Bushbots just for questioning what's going on. An email from the editorial page editor -

Dxxx: thanks for the support. I am already getting hammered as a "liberal." I went to great length, I thought, to explain how one can support the troops, respect the veterans, love the country, respect the executive, judicial and legislative branches and the constitution, and disagree with some of the policies of the presidential administration. Still, I get wailed on by hard-liners who I cannot help but think would pick up a hoe and bash in the skulls of those of us considered "infidels," as did Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge soldiers. Considering the genocidal KR forces were made up, primarily, of youngsters age 10 to 17 or so, the similar mindset among supposedly "thinking Americans" is particularly frightening.

But then, I guess I'm just a flaming liberal pinko commie.

Between us, here's something I didn't explore in the column and perhaps should have. The letter I referenced, which made the bold statement "Remember our veterans" on the front, vilified Congressman Murtha, a decorated veteran with, I believe, two Purple Hearts, saying "Murtha must have gotten his Purple Heart by getting shot in the ass while running away."

Now that's supporting our troops and veterans...

The vileness of the right will never cease to amaze me.

This man is a fucking war hero, for christ sakes.

He got wounded so fuckheads could spout shit like this? Hardly.

What a tool.

Yes, he did!
You are so correct.
He fought and was injured so people could voice their opinions,
even if you don't like them!

That doesn't mean we have to listen!

Voicing your opinion is one thing.

Attacking a man who risked his life to do so is quite another.
