This kid, Jason Mcelwain is a Senior in High school, the Basketball teams head assistant, and is also Autistic!
For 4 years Jason was everything from Mascot, to assistant. Bringing out the balls for practice, setting up towells spotting under the net, wiping sweat off for heads, bringing the gatoraid, and above all, being the teams number one cheer leader. But Jason had never actually played in a single game. He is after all, Autistic!

For the last game of his Sr year, the Coach had him "Suit Up", just so the kid could have that feeling of being part of the team.
Then in the last few minutes with the team up by 20 points, the coach gives Jason the nod and sends him into the game. It was his Sr Graduation present!

He missed his first shot, then he missed his second shot, but then the kid just got hot.
He then hit and scored his next six attempts, all but one of them 3 pointers, scored 20 points in the last 2 minutes of the game, set a new school scoring record, and well, as they say, the rest is history!

I've seen this story several times now, and I still get choked up.

Jason said in an interview after the game
that though he was used to feeling and being kinda different,
that this was something quite different, and nice.

He seems to be the breath of fresh air this country needed biggrin.gif
