Something else would be to compare the sitting Senators against their (potential) primary opponents.

Joe Lieberman - Ned Lamont http://www.nedlamont.com/

Daniel Akaka - Rep. Ed Case http://www.edcase.com/senate/campaign_central.php

UPDATES:

Jeff Bingaman - unopposed (filing deadline Feb. 14).

Please add/correct as necessary to this list
.

Thanks.

In other words,
if your protest vote might get a Republican elected,
consider the consequences!

Especially the long term consequences.

So we have two curtains:

Behind curtain 1 is a Congress even more heavily dominated by Republicans than it is now. We don't support the Democrat candidates who don't support us, this ensuring that Republicans get the seats. The situation is even worse than it is now.

Behind curtain 2 is a Congress dominated by Republicans and a majority of Democrats that do not oppose the Republicans and do not represent our interests. We re-elect them simply to keep Republicans from getting the seats. They continue to be who they are and vote as they have voted. The situation remains much as it is now.

Are those the only choices?

I want the third curtain or I refuse to play!

Then go away and pout
Because that's ALL you have to work with!

Sorry, but that's just the reality!

Work with what you got.
Maybe tomorrow we can make changes,
but for now the first priority is removing the Republicans!

At least if it stays like it is now, we have working room. If we dont support the Neo-Con opposition, then they will take absolute control. If that an option anyone here likes?

Not only does each branch of the government have particular powers each branch has certain powers over the other branchs. This is done to keep them balanced and to prevent one branch form ever gaining too much power. For example:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Congress may pass laws........but the President can veto them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The President can veto laws.......but Congress can override the veto with a 2/3 vote.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The President and Congreess may agree on a law..........but the Supreme Court can declare a law unconsitutional.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The President can appoint Judges and other government officials.......but Senate must approve them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Supreme Court judges have life terms.......but they can be impeached .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see there are many ways (there are many more than listed) that the Constitution balances power. Real life conflicts that test the system have occured throughout history. These checks and balances are used on a regular basis.

After the Civil War President Andrew Johnson vetoed over 20 bills.
After the Civil War Congress overrode overrode over 20 Presidential vetoes!
In1987 President Ronald Reagan appointed Judge Robert Bork to the Supreme Court, his nomination was defeated.
In 1935 and 1936 the Supreme Court declared the NIRA and then the AAA (two New Deal programs passed during the Roosevelt administration) unconstitutional.
In 1918 Congress refused to ratify the Treaty of Versailles, a peace treaty ending World War I that President Wilson had worked very hard on.
THIS IS WHAT WE'VE LOST THAT MUST BE RESTORED!! Sam Alito ain't gonna help.

YOu are absolutely correct Soon, Alito is NOT a step in the right direction.
However, having Sam Alito on the bench is not the end of the US constitution!

As your post very well indicates, we DO have many other options.

This fight is far from being over.
The Liberals of America are NOT ready to roll over!
In fact, more and more we are coming to speak with one voice,
more and more we are standing up and saying "ENOUGH!"

When Cindi Sheehan, while in the peoples house,
can get arrested for the clothes she wears,
we really need to Question Authority!
We will, and we are!
(even if some of you how ever you manage to do it, can't hear it!)
