Just wonder what everyone was thinking about this "breaking news"

Me too. Could it be to demonstrate the need for unfettered domestic spying? Bush certainly benefits from some fortuitous "coincidences" just when he needs them.

My thoughts exactly soon.

Even if the tape actually just surfaced, because I tend to believe Al Jazera, I can promise the spin will turn it into a heightened terror alert, and more americans accepting the trampling of our civil liberties.

How conveeeeenient. What timing.

March 13, 2002, Bush: “So I don’t know where he is. You know, I just don’t spend that much time on him. … And, again, I don’t know where he is. I — I’ll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.”

I dont have text, just listening to the 3:00 news on the radio.

Cheney, speaking to a group about Bush's wire tap authority
states that he is also skeptical about Bin Laudens intentions!

I actually had to laugh out loud that Osama saying "as soon as we finish our plan and that plan is ready, we're going to attack!" was breaking news. Bin Laden's "threat" would have equal meaning had he said "I don't have a plan yet, and I don't know when I will, and when I do, I don't know when it will be ready, but when it is, boy are you gonna get it!". Considering that third story on CNN's headline page at the time this breaking news actually broke was the claim that Clinton obstructed the Cisneros investigation (I know, I know, the what?) I'd say it was a slow news day.

A few weeks ago Yank posted the links to a PBS special called The Power of Nightmares (http://oldamericancentury.org/bb/index.php?showtopic=5971&hl=power+of+nightmares), and my husband and I watched all three of them back to back. It was an extremely thought-provoking documentary, part of which casts doubt on the idea that Osama Bin Laden was the power behind the 9/11 attacks or that Al Qeda was/is the terrorist powerhouse the whitehouse claims. I would encourage everyone to watch this documentary.

In light of the questions I have about whether or not OBL is a real threat, and in light of the limp threat supposedly made in this new tape, I find that I am unable to generate so much as a single goose-bump of fear. I do, however, find the gorge rising in my throat at yet another lame attempt by the Bush administration to make Americans afraid, and I strongly suspect that few if any will be fooled into thinking there is anything new about which we need worry.

VT, Can you provide a link fore the power of nightmares?

I posted this on the other thread.

The greater the likelyhood that this is a legit tape and a legit offer by Osama,
the less likely it is that the Bush Administration will ever accept it!

For Bushco to do so would be nothing short of Capitulation!!!

By the way, 5 years on and Osama is STILL able to send us a tape at his whim,
and our super top secret agencies that spy on the world can't catch this one mouse in their trap?

Bushco can not accept the offer. To do so would be to admit they failed and Osama has succeeded!

Clearly it's time to hand out a few more freedom medals!

Osama made the offer knowing the US would not accept.
Think of the press he'll get off this!

I don't know who that is on the tape.
I find the timing of it's release very interesting,
as well as the consequences of either accepting or not!

Yank posted them at the above.

I watch the Power of Nightmares for my Psy-150 class. It was great.

But here is the thing, we can prove Oshama worked for America fighting the Russians. We can prove we trained him and the Taliban. So why believe anything him or his people say about anything? He is another Bush in my book. Just some Fundie with a book stuck up his ass and its way to far up there.

Whoever "the voice" is , definitely is aware of the Military Industrial Complex and the role it plays in the Bush gang , which leads me to believe it IS Osama Bin Laden or somebody who is certainly anti-Bushco (but not anti-American, but will still make threats against Americans to prove how anti-Bushco he is). Yep, it's Osama.

I wouldn't be so sure he is anti-Bushco; this seems to be a symbiotic relationship and it's incomprehensible that they couldn't have found him if they wanted to. I won't get caught up in the whole conspiracy theory thing, although I wouldn't dismiss anything, but the Bush/Bin Laden ties are far and deep and I think there is much more to 9/11 and everything that has come out of it than we may ever know.

Yeah, like the Bush/McCain GOP run-off election in 2000> their animosity for each other was not as real as we thought, but the fact that they are both NeoCONS is . Evil guys sure are a complex breed evil.gif

Smoke and mirrors. Bush is in trouble about spying, and ALL OF A SUDDEN a new Osama tape comes out!

How nice!

I need one of these in my house.
Gadzooks!
I almost posted re; this topic earlier today, and had the same thoughts...we need to change the subject, find a good distraction and come up with a good justification for domestic spying. One would almost think george and osama are double-teaming us, you know, "good cop, bad cop."
