Seems like there has been a lot of gloom and doom posts lately and it got me to thinking about the changes I make...big and small.

Thought it might be nice for some sharing of ideas and of things we have done to make changes on our own little islands...

Please share.

I make a differance because I am,
and because I stand up to express myself,
and because other people listen to me!

I make a differance because If I don't stand up,
who will stand up for me?

No one will.

Its a hard thing to be strong, to stand up. But the alternative is to have no control over your own reality and that, for sure, is no real alternative.

Thanks, Sky, for starting this off. Come on y'all, tell me what you do. Let's get excited, let's share great ideas...

I am helping form a political group in my area. We are using DFA to form up and hold events. We plan to help our local canidates get elected and do small service projects.

I am hoping to open a battered woman and family farm/shelter in the near future, to help woman and young child flee from violent men.

I work a couple hours a week at my local school, but that is for a internship for school.

I have purchased the Wal Mart movie, and shown it to everybody I know, causing most of them to now boycott Walmart.

I also formed student groups while in University to stand up for students rights.

See, together, we do make a difference.

Gimme more!!!!

I know there are you who read this and don't respond. I bet you've done something to help someone else.

Tell me about it!

I'm good at stealing, I mean expanding on other people's ideas, & sharing them! wink.gif

For instance, sky's Google PNAC car window sign >>> I took it to Kinkos' and shrunk it to 16 per page, copied about 50 pages of them, then had them cut to 'business card' size. At first , I only left the Google PNAC 'business cards' in rest rooms, then I got braver and left them around the shopping mall at Christmas and more public places like every ATM I go to . I also put it in my tithing envelope at church every Sunday and with tips as I leave the table at restaurants smile.gif Lately, when people converse with me regarding slogans on my car, or my shirt, or tote bag, I use that as an opening to give them a Google PNAC 'business card' personally. Then I 'close' with my Google PNAC spiel rolleyes.gif

There is a lot of HOPE out there ... the most recent conversation I had was when I left the peace rally last Saturday with my signs in my car. My battery was dying, so I drove it to a auto repair shop! A man came up to me and said "I like your sign in your car Ma'am!" (He saw the one that said BUSH LIED, THOUSANDS DIED). He told me that he was a Vietnam Vet and he voted Democrat for the first time in his life last 2004 election. He said he does not know one Vietnam Vet that voted for Bush last election. I told him I fell for Bush first time, and woke up second time too. I asked him if he had a computer , and he said yes. So I told him to look up PNAC, it is an organization that Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Jeb Bush , and a lot of others in Bush Administration started to plot the Iraq War before George got elected the first time. The man said "I believe it!" I said he could STILL see their plot on their website today, so I handed him the Google PNAC 'business card'. He was really pumped and thanked me and we shook hands! I felt really good after that, like maybe he might tell all his Vietnam Vet Republican buddies about PNAC when he sees for himself biggrin.gif

I helped Tigana at Crawford Peace House messageboard with the PNAC flag idea>>> my idea with the skull and bones and PNAC 'crown', but all Tigana's designing talent and work went into it , and she came up with "Boot the PNAC " slogan thumbup.gif

Slogans are cool >>>I LOVE SLOGANS biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

That's awesome, Yank.

I think I'm going to "steal" your idea about "google PNAC" myself. I work on a university campus and the possibilities for drop off sights are enormous.

Thanks for sharing.

No way, Scorp, everyone's story is important.

Pinget
Dh has decided to tell his boss/dad that he cannot enter into partnership with the guy in line for that position (who would never go along with the following). That will mean splitting the company, but so be it. We have enough to live on and don't wish to become Rockefellers. Greg, my dh, wants to pay his employees a living wage, give them sick leave (they currently have none) and make their health care more affordable. Which might give us a higher quality group of employees in the long run. We do what we can, in the place where we are, and I'm so proud of him!

Great, Pinget!!!

I'm proud of your husband, especially considering that I know how those things are poo-pooed upon here in the south.
The Political Guy
I've started a Political Awareness Committee in my community that promotes political awareness among the youth around the community. We also promote tolerance of all political ideals and stresses the importance of voting. It is my goal to someday create a National Political Awareness Committee that will spread awareness among America's youth.
I also do my part by paying attention to current events and voting, excercising my constitutional right and responsibility.

Holy cow... what potential! smile.gif Just be careful lefty, and anonymous about it on the job, and out of "cam-view". cool.gif
Personally, I avoid my job with the "business cards" 'cause I'm not sure of my workplace rules, even during my breaks.
