Full Version: Why aren't Democrats Protesting Spying More?

Why aren't the Democrats protesting Bush's domestic spying more?

From the above choices, choose the one that you think is closest to "the truth", if that word can be applied to anything in Washington D.C. Politics.

I won't vote, since I have a pre-existing bias against the Democrats which would color my response.

Ok, if I had to say I liked one side more than the other, I would ALWAYS say dems, but the truth is that they have become (at least as far as my vision goes) extremely afraid of EVERYTHING. I voted that they want to stay in office, but that's only part of the answer. The other is that a do fear the repugs and alienating the neocons; a good majority of high dems are really just complete pansies when it comes to doing anything to upset the repugs even more. I have noticed that more and more the dems are just barely not neo-conservatives.
More and more they shy away from things that should definitely be platform forming points. For instance, why aren't more democrats working to uphold women's rights? It's become nearly "sinful" to even SAY you are a pro-choice dem anymore, as the christian right is so much "in control" of everything anymore that they are afraid it will be used against them at some point. I really don't feel like the dems have much of any platform anymore, other than "we hate republicans".

When I speak about dems here, I am talking mostly about the elected national figures, party heads and the extremely visable state leaders.

Anyway, sorry to ramble, just my 2 cents~

Come on folks, let's don't let our progressive lean become a progressive bias. It is possible, and I believe likely, that no greater outrage is being expressed because it is not certain at this point that what the Shrub did could be proven illegal (Moral reprehensibility is not, apparently, an issue in the hallowed halls of our government). The administration lawyers were watching everything Bush did, and they have their arguments, which, by all accounts, are well articulated arguments, at the ready. The Dems need to be sure they are on solid footing before they start crying "criminal activity!".

When the house of Bush comes crumbling down we need to be certain the cries of "this was done for political gain" are laughabe, and proving illegality takes time. Let's stop eating our own and try some patience.

The process requires patience along with persistance.

If you don't have the patience, get away from politics! Immediately!

It seems te me the Dems ARE making quite a lot of noise,
considering that first, they're politicians!

Yes, they are making noise, even it it isn't the noise YOU want to hear!

I was around and quite aware when Nixon was impeached.
The process from beginning impeachment to his resigning took almost a year!

Recall Clintons impeachment.
For Christ sake, how long did that fiasco drag out?

An Impatient realist? sheesh, OK.

Arg. I am having difficulty expressing myself today and you guys are too quick to smack me around when I do!!! tongue.gif

I didn't say that I expected everything to work out in 4 days and I didn't say that Dems aren't doing anything. (who knows if I'll even get it out this time...which, ironically, leads back to some ideas I questioned in my Tableau Rosa post...)
I am OPTIMISTIC that at some point we will have a solution to all of this, because I OPTIMISTICALLY believe that this whole democracy thing has something going for it. BUT I do think that EITHER side (repug or dem) can become corrupted and/or complacent. Like too many people are taking the wait and see attitude because they don't want to be the first one to call for Bush's head, because what will happen if they were wrong (or at least if he isn't actually impeached)?

And Sky, dear, didn't say I was a realist, said I was pragmatic/optimistic. so tongue.gif

Sorry Lefty, but my comments weren't for you! wink.gif

They were for this poll and the person that posted it!

Careful what you say here. The Democrats are very sensitive about their own. I didn't come here to be politically correct. I came to speak truth and expose bullshit, no matter what side of the aisle that bullshit is on. And I will continue to speak and expose.
sky of mind
Personally, I didnt ask you to be PC.
And I'm not offended that easely either.

I just happen to strongly disagree with your pessimistic views!

I am not afraid to speak my mind here, though, if I feel my ideas are misunderstood I am likely to try to better explain. I have yet to run into what I feel is an attack because I have an opposing opinion. I love this place. Makes me all warm and fuzzy to be here and, while most of the time I am preaching to the choir, I am so appreciative of the intellectually challenging people that are here and the wonderful conversations I am able to take part in.

Yesterday was a crudy day for me and I jumped to conclusions on more than one occasion about what I "thought" was being said, here on this forum and in real life.

Besides all my personal bullshit, I do feel that this is a forum for progressives. Not particularly people who want to say they are democrats. Of course, a good majority of the posters here probably to most align themselves with democratic ideals, doesn't mean they have to like the current members of the dem party or the current trends of the party.

Things are going to get better here in the United States and in the world, for that matter. I know it. Even dogs who are constantly mistreated will eventually bite their owner or run away. Most of the population of this planet has gotten to the point that they are ready to either bite someone or run away (in this instance, I believe that would be in the form of revolutions).

Why bother? CNN reported yesterday that in a poll, most people said that they were not outraged, and felt that it was OK to spy on Americans who were "communicating with terrorists."

If the citizens don't give a fuck, why should the politicians?

Scorp.
If you ever see a poll you don't like, look around and find one you do!

Seriousely, CNN has a reputation of being Pro-Bush!
So, what do you think they're gonna report?

There are a lot of other news sources who aren't feeling quite so glib!
Read some of my posts.

What kind of advice is that? You this truth does not fit into your views, just find one that does? Wonder where I have heard that before.

Sky, when are you going to come to terms with the fact that at the very least 75% of Americans dont give a shit about politics, let alone how it affects them. I thought that is why we are here, TO INFORM THEM. You telling them they are wrong all the time and pushing them away does nothing towards this end.

sky of mind
MM!

Do you really think this is a new phenom????

MOST people never get involved, EVER!

The 60's seemed like a pretty active time.
Everybody was involved in one way or another, right?

Tricky Dick coinded a term to answer this quiestion.
This reality he called, "The Silent Majority!"

The Silent Majority = The Apathetic??

Look, everybody cares just as soon as they feel it involves them!
And even those so call apathetic people,
nearly every single one of them has an opinion anyway!

BTW, my first comment that you quoted, was sarcasm tainted with some truth.
The polls are always wildly different, depending on how they are conducted.
Now, since CNN has a pro-bush bias, they way the conduct the polls,
the way they ask the questions might, (MIGHT) tilt a poll in a direction they want it to go.

Certanly you can understand the logic in this?

MasterMind
Yeah I see what you are saying, I did knot that was sarcastic. Sometimes I see it, sometimes I dont.

I think you forget Sky, I am young and only know what I read. I can never truly know what America felt like during those times, because I was not there. You where, so keep preaching baby.

Democrats and some Republicans have spoken out on this. As with everything else it might get a casual mention in the msm. Some have actually called for impeachment proceedings, but who's heard?
rcorporon
I think that people simply are failing to grasp what a serious attack on democracy this really is.

Bushco puts the "terror" spin on it, and most people just nod their heads and think "Well, at least a terrorist won't kill me now."

The Dems need to grow some nuts.
sky of mind
Who's listening?

Last I have seen Bush's ratings run anywhere from 2/3 to 3/4 of Americans have no confidence in Bushco.
Cheney's ratings are even lower, MUCH lower.

For having so many people not pay attention, or caring, Bush seems to be doing down right poorly!

Ir do they only interview for these polls those who are politically active?
