I'm an optimist, but I'm not a blind optimist. Sometimes a pessimistic position can be an effective passive-agressive way to get people to take an issue more seriously.

I am an unashamed, unrepentant, unadulterated Optimist. I view the world with open eyes, recognizing that reality, pragmatism, and optimism are not competing positions, but are simply points of view dependant on how one chooses to to frame a given situation.
I have absolute faith in the general goodness of people, in the powerful pull of right over wrong, and in a natural balance that ensures that nothing bad will stay bad forever. Yes, indeed; I wear the lable of Committed Optimist with great pride!

But wait, is not ones reality, their OWN perception of events around them? So the only one who is really blind to reality are those who lie to themselves, which is everyone.
We lie to ourselves far more then anyone else will ever lie to us, save Bush, his ablilty to lie and people to believe it will be legendary in the future.

I'm a realist is another way of saying,
I'm being realistic, you aren't!
In order for you to BE realistic,
someone has to be unrealistic!
MasterMind
Tuesday, 27 December 2005, 12:26 pm
There would have to be a clearly defined reality for one to be of it and the other not.
Once you learn anything about quantim mechanics, you will question what we consider reality and what we dont.
Does this make me unrealistic, because I feel everyone has their own reality?

When you don't have a pre-existing loyalty to anyone or anything, then you are much closer to reality than someone who has that pre-existing bias.

In other words, because YOU don't have a pre-existing loyalty,
YOUR reality is a more TRUE reality?
How do you be a human being and not have ANY bias?
Sorry AFW, but I don't buy it.
You are not super human.
If you have no bias, then you have no opinion,
and clearly that is certainly NOT the case here!

The term "realist" isn't and sholdn't be on the list.
Reality is entirely dependant on perspective,
and my perspective is unique to me.
Having "Realist" as a measure of public attitude
would be like letting everyone decide how much an inch is.
Clearly everyones yard stick would be a little different!
If an inch is an inch, the standard understood by everyone to be an inch,
it's not en emotional measure. It's a fact!
A Fact is not open to interpretation.
Only a computer that deals only in facts can be a true realist!

Pragmatic/optimist
Is that possible? I, like a few before, am very much in the belief that deep down inside the majority of humans are good. Most people WOULDN'T shoot you rather than look at you (or how ever that saying goes), but I am pretty pragmatic about how I go about things. I think to say I am optimistic in my outlook of my world is a true statement. But I pragmatically prepare for my life, I go about things in the most "logical" manner. Does that make ANY sense??
(By the way, just wanted to say HI to everyone, I was gone for a few weeks and am SOOOOO happy to be back here to enjoy all of the engaging conversation and debate provided by all of you wonderful folks!!)
