In the absence of the southern Democrats, in the early 1860s the new Republican Congress was able to pass a number of party measures with little opposition. What do these measures tell you about the historical roots of the Republican Party? More generally, how do you think we should view legislation passed in the absence of the customary opposition, debate, and compromise?

Well the question was possed to me and I am just curious how others will respond.

It is clear from these actions and the continued actions of the Republican Party show the Honor and Integrity of this political party. They will use any means to reduce opposition in government. What they did is no different from what they do right now and is akin to war profiteering and suffers tragedies that Washington warned against when he spoke about Sectionalism. Any legislation passed during this time that aids only Republican interests should be thrown out and those who pushed for such measures during moments of reduced opposition in government should be shamed publicly, prosecuted , and frown upon socially.

Ummm....that the Democrats were defeated in the "civil" war, and have been whipped dogs turned into lap poodles ever since????

Did I get it right? Did I get it right?

I mean, where IS John Kerry Kohn?

LAP POODLE SECRET SOCIETY WHIPPED DOGS - False Opposition Front Democrat Party. And Howard Dean? He should move to Israel and run for Prime Minister.

If Netanyahu wins, he's pledged to attack Iran. Russia has pledged to turn the Jewish State into Heat and Light if they do.

I don't think "liberal" amounts of suntan lotion are going to protect him from 250 kiloton Onyx warheads travelling at 3500 miles per hour 40 feet about the ground.

Putin has a number of them stationed in Syria. Netanyahu will be Israel's nuking into a bad memory if he attacks Iran. And it'll be over in mircoseconds. Launched from Syria, travelling at Mach 3.5, they'll hit any city in Israel in a matter of seconds. And if the USA goes after Russia, well, China is taking Australia, who I see recently got "gun control" passed. And North Korea is taking South Korea, and blowing Japan out of the water.

And life on earth will be set back at least 1000 years, possibly longer.

All over Zio-Nazis doing exactly what Hitler did - just like they're presently doing in the USA.

The republicans think the government is Hardee's. They'll have it their way.

That's Burger King, genius.

No, Burger King is YOUR way.

Also, I seriously doubt we would ever go to war with China. Who do you think payed for our war in Iraq? Who do you think we borrowed the money from, which brings up another question. WHy did China loan us the money to wage war?

I'd guess that China is planning to own the United States. The money they loaned us is money they made selling products to American consumers at Sprawl-Mart.

China didn't loan us the money.

Unless, of course, you consider that the Chinese central bank is also owned by Rothschild.
