Hello -

I'm a former Republican. I read the Downing St memo about 4 months ago and that was that. I've been waking up to alot of truths since then. Just hit me today that the administration seemed fascist, so I stumbled across this site. So be kind - I'm still scraping the scales from my mind! smile.gif

I'm a 35 yo married lady, 2 sons ages 9 and 6. I'm an Army brat, lived in Germany from '85 to '88. Lived in alot of other places as well. I have a Master's in French, and I'm currently fully employed as a mommy.

I voted for Bush in '04 and sincerely regret it. But the Dems aren't too appealing either, since they seem to be another head on the hydra - not the completely separate opposition I'd prefer. And Cindy Sheehan says Hillary supports the war. Well, guess I'm a Progressive then.

Hello.

Welcome Pinget!

You know, the smartest people are those who can say,
I'm not sure.

I think you will enjoy this forum.
The moderators do a great job of keeping things cool and respectable.

The list owner, POAC, (aka TJ) is way to modest so I'll let you know that he's a very astute observer.

Every person member of this forum has earned my respect in one way or another,
and in my reality, respect is earned!

By the way....

LOL - I wanted Molly Weasley, but I can't get one suitable. So far. Just looking for a serious woman.

And regardless of whether you agreed with her or not - what a lady Maggie is! She's at least partly responsible for me being interested in politics in the first place. You know, she's married, raised a family and had a top-level career in government. Find me a top-level American woman who can say that. cool.gif

Ha ha. I suppose the word I was looking for was mature. Someone definitely not on the "maid" end of the "maid, mother, crone" timeline.

Besides I like Molly Weasley, so there! tongue.gif

Thanks for the pic, BTW.

Hello -

I'm a former Republican.

Welcome Pinget. My father was an Eisenhower, Goldwater, Nixon Republican. He began to change when Ray Gun got elected, and refused to even vote during the '88 election, because he is an aitheist and didn't like the fact that the Christian right was taking over his party. In 1992, he voted for Bill Clinton. You could have knocked me over with a feather when he told me that. Since then, he has voted straight Democratic ticket.

I'm a progressive, much more liberal than he. But, I didn't become a Democrat until 1998. Until then, I had weird dreams of a third party coming to power. When the insane Republicans impeached President Clinton for a blow job, I finally had enough. I have been a staunch Democrat ever since.

I still don't like everything the Democrats do, but I decided to join them in the fight against the obvious evil of the corporatist/imperialistic/apocalyptic Republican maniacs who want to destroy the pesky middle class, starve the lower class, and return our country to the robber barron era.

But what if the Republicans and Democrats are 2 heads on the same hydra?

My story of personal political growth is similer, only for me the moment of truth was Reagan. Though I grew up with Progressive Liberal roots, before Ronnie I voted the issue, and considered each candidate individually. Well, Reagan came along and I knew I had to have nothing to do with the Repugs! I witnessed political lies. I saw innocent people killed to satisfy economic greed. And trickle down? I always say I "got trickled on!" Reagans economic policy had me out of work for 11 months. 25 years old and there was NO work to be had! I did odd under the table stuff, like being asked to cut down some guys orchard for the wood so I could sell it! Way whole buncha work for 50 bux!

Ever since Ray Gun I have voted straight D.
The way I see it, even a bad Democrat is better than any Republican!

I suspect that today in America thier are a lot of moderate conservatives who are going through their own personal political growth spurt.
How ever it happens, it's all part of life's learning curve!

That's a valid argument Pinget,

However, politics is a lot like a grocery store.
If no one buys a product, it won't be on the shelf and offered for very long.

If you don't think your politicians are doing what you think they should do,
Don't vote for them!

And if you are just one of a 50 million people, and 25 million don't agree with you,
well, that's politics!

I Believe politicians, like society in general, runs a political spectrum from extreme liberal to extreme conservative. I believe that not all Democrats deserve our respect. I personally have great issue with Kerry for NOT honoring his promise to make sure all votes counted and simply gave Ohio away! But, given a choice between Kerry and almost any Repug you match him against, I'd grudgingly vote for Kerry! And IF Kerry defeated the Repug, then next time around when he's being challenged by an honorable Democrat, kick him to the curb!

Yes, it's a slow process. It's supposed to be.
The process that is slow for me, is also slow for the Rabid Conservative.
The slow is what helps prevent things from completely falling apart,
even though it's never really fixed either!

Two heads of the same Hydra?
I'm a Democrat.
A Progressive Liberal sided with the Democrats for reasons of practical realism.
I'm a Democrat, and I'm no Hydra!
