Hello!

For the last year my saturday mornings have been occupied with the thorough reading of three websites:

1. Alternet
2. From The Wilderness
3. POAC

This has been my steady and well-balanced diet of alternate news resources, along with daily perusal of CNN, Slashdot, Fark, and Japan Today.

Within the last month I find I have been coming to POAC almost every day just to keep up with the news feed. The other two sites move sufficiently slow to be able to digest them weekly, but much more happens here! I try to click through all the front page links and get the gist, and read the OP/EDs more thoroughly.

I find this place an invaluable resource, and I feel a bit silly that I only just now discovered there was a forum here. Actually it was because one of the front page links linked directly to the forum.

I hope to be able to contribute something helpful to the forum discussions. In the last two years I have become more politically aware and active, having registered to vote and actually voted for the first time in my life at the age of 40, and having gotten active in assisting the independent canditate of a local election, and being the current webmonkey for the Libertarian candidate for NJ Governor. No, I'm not a Libertarian, but I like some of their thinking.

I'm a software engineer with a steady job, I live at the New Jersey Shore, I'm married, with two kids, a dog, and a parakeet, and I compose classical electronic music and make funny photoshop pictures in my spare time.

I hope that was brief enough rolleyes.gif

You're welcome, you do a good job! I wouldn't know half the stuff I know if you weren't busy here aggregating links to it all.

Thanks! Being in the digital pre-press business for 12 years taught me lots of neat stuff.

And thank you all for the warm welcomes!

Thanks! It's a silly Neon Genesis Evangelion reference I had lying around from a previous life on an anime board. I will have to cook up something appropriate for this forum.

Of course I could use this one, but then I'd have to pay for your medication.

Well I'll be damned! I'm a huge fan of your work in the photoshop contests. I haven't been able to really see too many of them for the past year or so. Let alone be able to participate. Imagine seeing you here. That's too cool.

Gosh thanks! I have had alot of fun making them, I have done almost 800 so far. I am actually just getting ready to take a sabbatical there, lately I have had little time to participate, my work has been coming in short bursts with one-month gaps in between.

As you probably know, Fark is well-known for their out-of-control political discussions, I think I have seen some of the worst vitriolic and ad-hominem big brain tennis matches there over the years, even worse than usenet, so even if I did want to contribute something to the discussion, it gets lost in the noise.

I spent some time last night going through the forums here and it seems the discussion is much more civil, although somewhat slanted to the left because of the nature of the site and the position it supports, which is just fine by me.

I wish I could share some of the wonderful jingoistic fan mail I got over this piece:

It seems I had no right to make such artwork, that I was dishonoring America, that if I didn't like it I should leave, that people were fighting and dying for the flag, that I should think about my freedoms before saying such things, etc. It was quite a collection, but I seem to have purged it from my archives, unfortunately.
