Boozy Brits buying up more beverages

LONDON (AFP) - The amount of alcoholic drink bought by British households soared by nearly 10 percent in a single year, a report said. Britain's annual family food report produces a multitude of figures on the nation's food and drink buying habits.
The statistics revealed a nine percent surge in the amount of alcohol bought by households between 2002/03 and 2003/04. The amount of booze consumed while eating out sank by 5.5 percent over the same period.
The research, based on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' expenditure and food survey, showed the average Briton aged over 13
British residents on average each bring home 2.65 pounds (4.70 dollars) worth of booze per week. The survey was compiled using date from 16,965 people in 7,048 households across Britain
