My brother asked me a question last night. He asked(as a joke) "Are you a neo-liberal?" And i replied "No, that is someone on the far right." Then he asked, "Are you a neo-conservitive?" At that point it got me thinking. Both are people on the extream right of the politcal spectrum(sp?), so what is the difference, my fellow politcal experts?

From what you've written in the past JD, I doubt there is a possibility that you are a neo-liberal.

Neo-Liberalism is about Free Market economics, quoting Adam Smith out of context and creating an infrastructure to keep rapacious mutlinational corporations in a neverending supply of cheap labor. Reaganomics and Trickle Down economics is "Neo-Liberalism"... NAFTA and CAFTA is all about Neo-Liberalism.

Neo-Conservatism is about dragging knuckles on the ground and living the good old days of slavery, colonialism and carrying a really big stick to enforce American Hegemony.

It is possible to be a Neo-Liberal and a Neo-Conservative at the same time. Talk about confusion. There is no way to be an FDR Style Liberal and a Conservative at the same time. Although there are people who are liberal on some social issues and conservative on others. I personally think that this is more BS thrown around to confuse the general public.

Thank you Seamus. Great education, and links too!

I don't know that political sociologists use terms simply to confuse.
Medical personal constantly use terms I don't understand, even though they understand each other!

Each field has it's jargon. In a way knowing the jingo is kinda like being a member of the club. (oh! You speak French? Parley Vou Francis?) Watch your Dr next time he's "confering" and see if you can detect any smugness.
