People in this country are accepting American Fascism, and Empire. They think American Hegemony is fine, and so is imperialism. I have been on over 100 boards, and they think it's fine. What the hell is happening to this country? Many Republicans are actually proud to call themselves NeoCons. Am I missing something here? wall.gif

Friendly Fascism

The New Face of Power in America
by Bertram Gross

QUOTE
p13
Samuel Johnson
"Power is always gradually stealing away from the many to the few, because the few are more vigilant and consistent."

QUOTE
p32
Daniel R. Fusfeld
As long as an economic system provides an acceptable degree of security, growing material wealth and opportunity for further increase for the next generation, the average American does not ask who is running things or what goals are being pursued.

Seamus
I like this quote from Friendly Fascism... It IS the Authoritarian Model. Father knows best.

QUOTE(President Richard M. Nixon)
"The average American is just like the child in the family."

The Third world Traveler should make his site look more professional, I think it would help in the presentation. Thanks for the link.

We need a Revolution in this country, a peaceful one will do the trick, maybe. Everyone in this country needs to passively aggressively Revolt against the Gov. When it comes time to do our taxes we should not do anything. What can they do if the collective masses of America say No to the IRS? We still have this trump card to play. Soon we will not, as a Mass Consumption tax is in the works. I wonder why they are going to do that? evil.gif

That's wonderful thinking and even a great idea, but remember....

Welcome to the Catch 22 episode of the Twilight Zone!
folkie
A full eighth of our population is in prison. For another eighth, live is so nasty, brutish, and short, that most don't live to be 20. A full half of our population is below average intelligence. That's why average is in the middle of the chart. Most of them think politics has nothing to do with them, and in any case, they are much too busy trying to earn a living or partying to waste time with anything that doesn't bring them an immediate reward.

About a third of the country votes. Among these, many vote however their leaders tell them to vote. They may feel dissatisfied with their choices, but those are the only choices they have, so that's who they vote for. They keep falling for the old canard that if they keep voting for whoever it is they usually vote for, things will get better, or at least won't get worse. Despite the fact that this has never been the case and never will, most people need something to believe in.

A very small number of U.S. citizens are intelligent, informed, and progressive. Many of these believe that they are the only one in that situation and have no contact at all with anyone similarly situated. Others have some contact with others, either through sites like this or through local progressive groups, but the moment they start to organize or become the least bit effective, they are mobbed by professional political operatives, or simply shut down. New laws with regard to the internet may soon mean that unless I subscribe to POAC's snailmail newsletter, I will not be able to access this site or anyone on it at all.

The best and the brightest have no chance whatsoever. The FBI is keeping close watch on environmentalists because they are considered terrorists under the Patriot Act. Anarchists are obviously a menace to society, and are constantly subject to brutality and arrest for such subversive acts as opposing war crimes. Vegetarians are a threat to the meat industry, and are likely to find themselves on FBI watch lists soon also.

This is a police state. If you are silent and obedient, your turn won't come until later. If you resist, you will be punished. But those who are silent and obedient don't know that this is a police state because they have never challenged it. They think the 1/8 of our population in prison must have done something wrong, like smoking pot (drugs account for 57% of our prison population) or being born brown or black. But prisons are a growth industry and to fuel stock market growth it needs to keep growing.

Those who thought that capitalism was a good thing, because even if they were working class, they could aspire to the American dream of owning their own home were taken aback by the recent Supreme Court ruling that if somebody with more money wants your home, it isn't yours any more. Normally they'd think that government taking their home was Communist, but since the people who did it are Republicans, most homeowners are still scratching their heads and trying to figure it out.

Not that it matters. If you read, "Votescam" by the late Collier brothers, you'll find that elections in this country have been rigged for a long time. It didn't start with Diebold. After the bloody coup of 1963, most people here said that since we didn't have bloody coups in this country, it must not have been a bloody coup, and anybody who said otherwise was a conspiracy theorist. After 9/11, most people said that since our government wouldn't pull a "Reichstag fire" the way the Northwoods report and PNAC suggested, it must have been somebody else, and anyone who says otherwise is a conspiracy theorist. Most people here went to lousy schools where they were not permitted to think for themselves. The ones who went to "good" schools, for the most part, are the children of the rich who were educated to be good corporate tyrants. And we have a higher rate of functional illiteracy than many 4th world countries.

Besides, fascism happens one step at a time, like boiling frogs. You have to be a student of it to recognize it in the early stages, and if you mention it to anyone else, you're obviously a paranoid nutcase. Everything's just fine--take your meds and try to have a more positive attitude.

When your government has an official policy of torture, it has a chilling effect on dissent. Remain silent and you're the "good German" who pretends not to know what's going on. Speak up and if they can't discredit you any other way, you'll soon find yourself in the gulag or the victim of an unfortunate "accident."

I don't see any hope for this country. I don't see any hope for our poor, ravaged planet. There was a lovely book a few years back called, "The Culture of Make Believe," by Derrick Jensen, who interviewed other activists who devoted their lives to hopeless causes. I sort of wish TJ would put it on his reading list. For me, it was inspirational. I came away from it feeling that even though it is hopeless, even though I'm crazy, and even though there is no possibility of my accomplishing anything whatsoever, so long as I keep doing whatever inconsequential things I can manage to do for progressive causes, I'm in excellent company. So that's my personal opium, what's yours? smile.gif

Yeah i heard about the national sales tax too. I was wondering if anyone had read Pete Hendrickson's book Cracking the Code: The Truth About Taxation in America, I guess it proves that most people do not have to pay income tax, and if this obviously got out to the masses, Congress would have to do something about it. Nevertheless, it wouldn't hurt for more and more of us to get this knowledge and not fund the American war machine anymore.

The website for the book is here

They certainly would. And it is likely that whatever they did about it would be a boon to the growing prison-industrial complex.

Fear is their motivator. Could the guillotine be far behind? This would be facing up of course. The Gestapo loved to use it as a bargaining chip.

Some days, I too am a pessimist.

The US didn't defeat Fascism; it adopted it and renamed it Freedom.

Brother Seamus,

I am recalling the official WWII story, in that,
in the early days of that war Americans needed a Victory to give hope!

As a kid I read "30 seconds over Tokio" and was inspired how those men risked all,
just to build that hope!

It would seem today we have yet to have any substantial Victories against this monster.
Without any solid victories, like Simon and Garfunkels Boxer, it gets harder and harder to keep on fighting!

As for myself, yes, I have my pessimistic days.
Not so much that it seems pointless. The point to me anyway is clear and evident!
It's that it feels hopeless, even helpless!

Friendly Fascism explained a lot to me. How we as a people could sit back and allow this situation we suffer with today, to simply happen! Even at times, encourage! It seems certain to me that increasingly Bushco does NOT have the support of the people he was elected(?) to serve, and the more this becomes the case, the more he flips us off and does exactly what ever he (they) want too!

In other words, short of an actual open revolt within the Government of Bushco, or a revolution in the streets involving several million Americans, neither of which seems to have any hope of happening in spite of all the good words and some efforts, and in spite of shifting public opinion and the liberal rebound, it seems as though "they" have a firm handle on the situation and nothing is going to improve. In fact, indications are that things will get much MUCH worse!

So even though the Downstreet Memo's looked hopeful,
even though Plame gate looks hopeful,
Bush, the Neocons, PNAC and corporate democracy are still not threatened by much of anything.

Please, anybody! Give me reason to hope!
Because without hope, all that is left is dispair!
Merry
With all the apathy out there, with so many not paying attention or just not giving a damn, it DOES tend to make one depressed! sad.gif

I care, I just don't know what to do to wake people up. Talking about it gets you nowhere if people won't do anything to stop it.

Merry,

Impeach Bush Protest March on the Capitol. Sept 24, 2005

Hopefully, this will send a strong enough message.
Hopefully the event will be widely reported by the MSM.

I wish I could go myself, but I live in the NW, (very long road trip)
have very little disposable cash, and have a job that I must go to
so that I might continue to have a roof over my head.

I sent Impeachbush.org a $10 donation,
though I would rather help TJ and POAC with his efforts.
Hopefully he has thrown the full weight of the POAC behind

500,000 people marched in DC at the
A.N.S.W.E.R.-initiated demonstration on January 18, 2003.

I wish I could go too, Sky! My finances prevent me, but my heart and spirit are with ALL the people who are willing and able to show the world how we feel!

I CAN afford to send in a small donation too, and I think I will...even a small amount may help.

As for the MSM, not too sure about that! I'd like to think that if enough people gather it WILL get the coverage it deserves!

This morning I caught the weekly "State Of The Union" address on the radio by W, and I nearly gagged! He was going on about how wonderful our economy is, and how many new jobs have been generated. So many LIES!!! My state is second in the nation for unemployment, and it's just getting worse. I had to flee the room, I just couldn't stand listening to that moron anymore! And the worst thing is...many people will believe it! sad.gif

Apathy, stupidity...both? They just numb their minds with senseless reality shows on TV! wall.gif

I can't stand to hear the sound of the idiot's voice. He never says anything new...only rephrases all the same tripe, which the majority of Americans absorb like a sponge, thinking their "protector" is speaking and saying something full of wisdom. Then, they turn to Fox News to hear the same propoganda and more rehash of old propoganda.

We've become a nation being lured to our destruction by a siren song sung by the Neocons.

I'm looking into that march. I think it would be wonderful to be a part of it.

I agree! That idiot can't talk, let alone read from a script! HOW can anyone take him seriously?

As for the majority of people, it doesn't seem to worry them as long as they aren't directlly affected. Our "Prez" is protecting us from "The EVIL", and as long as it's not on OUR doorstep, everything is fine! blink.gif Our country is now a humiliation around the globe, how much more can we stand? How many innocent lives are we willing to sacrifice?

I'm thinking about joining the March myself, it's on a Saturday, but visions of tear gas and police brutality are dancing in my head. This isn't an era for speaking out or holding a peaceful demonstration. Sad when we can't even speak our mind without fear of retribution and intimidation, isn't it? sad.gif
