Just wondering. Is running this place your full time job or do you do something else too, this being more of a hobby?
Also, since this is a place to "lavish praises for the admins" I would like to say that I really appreciate this group and the hard work you all put into this. POAC is one of my main sources for news and political information. You are doing a great service for your country.

Keep fightin' the good fight and thank you.

By day I am a mild mannered republican lobbyist for the Texas energy industry. By night, I'm ...SUPER LIBERAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just kiddin'.
I watch the board as I work. I work on the Project about 10-15 hours a day. The real credit for the forum goes to Panda, Catherine, and Dave. Who are always here even when they aren't here (in hidden mode). They are such ass savers. And Doc Left is a great help too. he brings stuff to our attention all the time.
And thanks for your kind words. We all work really hard and we really love our country.

Two more questions. How many active members does the forum have and how many hits does POAC get each day?

I'm not sure about the active memebers of the forum. You can look at the memberlist and gleen as much about that as I can.
The main page gets numbers in the the low thousands for unique visitors every day and increases about 10-20% a month.
As for hits, we get over a million a day last time I checked.

A million hits a day?! Maybe we are bigger then i thought. There must be a lot of people who read the news but never come in and talk.

[QUOTE]
If Money decides if it is a full time job... or a hobby... then probably more hobby for everyone. However, as with any hobby that ensues passion for life, freedom and the pursuite of happiness..... it seems to me that we have admin's with full time jobs here! and members as well!
If it wasn't for Panda, Cathrine, and Dave.... I would never see my husband! They are the best... as are our loyal members who have stated they do not want admin status... however, are a vital part of keeping this running so smoothly!
May was Poac's two year anniversary for being live on the net.....August is our two year anniversary for the forum... I am very proud of how far poac has come in two years! From a newsletter sent out to friends to an actual news site... where people come to get their REAL news of what is happening in this country.
The main site is TJ's full time job. The sale of merchandize and donations keep the site up and running. We moved to Iowa, in part, to keep this TJ's full time job. The cost of living here is much much lower than that of a city. (I was let go in January 2004 from a corporate america..) and after burning up my retirement savings keeping us afloat...we moved....then a few short (thank god) stints at Wal-mart and a gas station.... I have finally started a full time position with 1/2 the pay I was making... but excellent benefits. The position affords us to keep our bills paid and keep TJ full time with the project. That was our goal... and we feel very fortunate that our fate has worked out.
Thanks to all of you who are loyal members, who fight to restore the freedoms we once had, and who have fought to create the freedoms we once enjoyed. I agree with JackD that over a million hits a day from all over the world is a fabulous achievement! Poac judges it's growth by unique visitors... thus stating how many different people a day visit the site....The more people that know the truth the harder it is for the propoganda machine to miss inform....
Anyway... Thanks to Panda, Cathrine and Dave... and all of you.... I actually get to see my husband and enjoy the "newlywed" cooking we both love.

Poac? Just because now I'm curious,
Can you tell how many of that million (and growing) hits a day
are on the news front page and how many are on the Forum?
Just on the furface, when you watch how many views all strings have,
that's a lot!
I'm saying, it would seem to me that what we do here, our discussions,
does have an impact on the "blogasphere!"
In other words, the more those rat bastards
the conservative internet warriors keep an eye on us,
the more it's clear they take us seriousely!
And THAT'S a good measure of we we do here!

hits aren't a real good judge of traffic because search engine finds and hotlinked images register them as well. An example would be like this:
If you scroll down, you'll see that some of my graphics have been hotlinked by a user on FARK.
http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=1525862Each time someone views that, it registers as a hit. But nobody really came to the POAC site. And since so much material of our is hot linked (graphics and audio/video files) I only go by unique visitors.
I don't really have a way of measuring how many unique visitors come to the forum. At least I don't think that I do. Let me go poke around and I'll get back to you.

OK, so it isn't all that simple.
None the less, how ever they come,
a million hits sure is better than a hundred!

absolutely. I remember when I was excited about getting a hundred visitors a day. Now I'm disappointed if it's less than 2,500.

2. Promotion of any illegal activity or criminal threats towards anyone. We all know the feds read this, and frankly, I don't want any visits from the government. They have better things to deal with than me or some foolish comment posted here.
Hey, POAC, do the feds snoop around your house?

A new question(s) for the Admins.....
How long does a post remain active until it drops off the forum?
And when it drops off, does it drop into oblivion, or into archives?

RE: page views vs. individual views.
I sell on Ebay and use the Andale counters. Andale has a service that counts either page views or individual views. What I mean is that if you WANT you can have it count either refreshes of the page or individual clicks in. Maybe you could ferret out something from there to use for your cunters?

Sky, I'll attempt to answer your question since I don't see any other mods around presently.
If you go to SEARCH, lots of options pop up. Look at the section where you're asked how many days do you want to go back, and you can choose up to 365 and beyond. POAC may knock me out of the water on this, but I'd say they're archived.
I used the
search the other day to look up information that had been posted about George Galloway, and it took me to the exact post I was looking for.

Cool.
I've been here just long enough now to see the need to be able to go back and recheck some posts. To see changes, and to back up statements.
Thanks Cath!

I love typos. Hahahahaaaaaaaaaa! Sorry, I'm very immature.
There's a forum feature at the bottom of the pages....view last 30 days, 60 days, 90 or from the beginning. You can view all posts since our crash, right after the "election" in Nov. 2004. POAC will have to address issues such as mirror sites, (I'm assuming we have one now), how long the archives will be maintained etc. cuz I don't know.
And, as Catherine said, there's the search feature.

I've got a couple of minor quibbles with the new site software update.
One is that it won't let me edit thread titles. This might just effect only me, as I have a tendency to reach for an attention-grabbing headline even if it isn't totally accurate, so I get called on it a lot and sometimes want to change it.
The other is that the new smilies seem smirkier than the old ones, particularly the one with the wink and the one with sunglasses that I use a lot. I liked the old ones better.
Oh well.

How did you admins, besides POAC, get suckered into helping out here?
Also, who is Rev. Day-Bu?
On a side note. Panda, this is my favorite.
