Hello people. It looks like I'm the newest kid on the block here. A friend at another forum recommended this forum as a place that has some lively discussions. I'm usually up for some of that so that's why I'm here. I'm a moderate Republican but I have been known to cross party lines when the candidate of my party just flat out sucked. I'm open-minded and it's possible that I could be induced to change my mind on certain issues if presented with the right and persuading arguments. I just hope that the people here are also open-minded and are not inflexible and rigid ideologues like at some other forums I've come across. I'm looking for some intellectual stimulus and hope that I've come to the right place for that.

Not to worry, Sky. I'm a law abidin' easygoing peaceful kinda guy. And I'll try to stay that way unless someone here pulls a "gun" and starts "shooting" at me first.

I hope that never comes to pass.

Something to keep in mind Wiseguy, is that this is a political discussion message board for like minded people. Namely anti-corruption progressives and liberals. This is not a political debate forum. So if you introduce unpopular viewpoints that result in more argument than discussion, you will be asked to leave.
And I'm on the fax tree for the GOP talking points, and if I see you parroting them, you're gone immediately. Propagandists and apologists aren't welcome here. Sincere social and economic conservatives are.
Enjoy your stay.

Well, thanks for the welcome, I think. You're the admin here so that gives you the right to make the rules. Does this mean that I can't disagree with your or anyone else's viewpoints? I just want to clarify that so I know exactly where I stand. Please let me know if my mostly conservative views are frowned upon here. If that's the case, I'll hit the road and find friendlier surroundings. I definitely don't want to be where I and my viewpoints are not wanted.

So, you consider part of the former to be an accurate description? If that's the case you're in for some rough sailing.
We have to deal with the wingnut lies 24/7. They are unceasing, relentless and pervasive. They corrupt and mislead the nation. Really, we don't need them parroted here. It makes us feel very disgusted and makes you look very sick.
Don't disgust Dave. The consequences can be too horrible to mention. And POAC, don't even go there, he'll have your hide on the front page.
That being said, let's see where you stand. How about going to another sub forum here and post up what it is that makes you identify as a conservative and why. This is for introductions and is not a sandbox for conservatives real and imagined to dominate and monoplolize for purposes honest and otherwise.
Thanks.

Panda, this is just one of many forums which I post at. I like to read and digest all points of view from all sides whenever possible. What's the point of hanging around with only like-minded people? After all, variety is the spice of life. I try to listen and learn from all sorts of people. As far as I'm concerned, that's the true path to knowledge. So you hang out at DU, and you are still allowed to post there.. Do they know you are a Republican? I was a member there and got the "boot', and for God Almighty, I"m a liberal Democrat.. And besides I'm tagged as the best Bush Basher on record. You would think that would keep me right up front on any liberal Democrat forum.. Not the case with DU, they are a bunch of "punks" there.
There are thirteen ways to unbutton your views, some threads are beginning to come loose on a few.

King, I don't spend a whole lot of time at DU. I probably make about 5 or posts or so a week. I don't hide the fact that I'm conservative when I do post and I play by their rules as much as possible. Maybe that's why they haven't kicked my ass to the curb yet. Either that or maybe they need to keep a conservative whipping boy around!

Of course, there are lots of loonies there but there is also a bunch of reasonable folks who tend to balance things out a wee bit.

Anal retentive? I don't understand, how would that be applicable to your handle on DU? Your "privacy"? Do you use your real name there? No, I sorta doubt that, haha.
There is little privacy on the internet, and it is good to be security conscious, but, I really don't understand how giving us your handle there, or at any of the other boards you post at could in any way compromise your 'privacy'.
I think it would be the gentlemanly thing to do, afterall, if you intend to engage in debate, you have the advantage. How so? Well, for one, you have our entire posting histories at your fingertips through the search function. You? You're a clean slate to us.
Surely you can see the inherently unfair arrangement that is and I don't thnk you would wish unfair advantage. Having oppositional research at your fingertips allows you to assess all of our individual strengths and weaknesses while we have no such tool at our disposal.
I suspect that's the real reason you don't wish to divulge, you'll be giving up an advantage I am sure you're aware of.
Frankly, your stated reason doesn't hold water. You need to share.

Perhaps Wiseguy's motivation is this: DU don't allow conservative posters, so if he told you his handle, he'd be kicked off. Otherwise, Dave's argument makes perfect sense. (I use the same handle on all Boards, except where there is already a Doug, and then I'm Doug1943, in case anyone's interested. You can find me on several boards, liberal and conservative, except for FreeRepublic, where I was kicked off for raising the issue of torture by US forces.)

Dave, I don't know you or anyone here in the slightest. And I don't know your motives. If I gave you or anyone else my handles on other forums, it would be possible to obtain personal info about me that I wish to keep private. So, sorry if my stated reason doesn't satisfy you or Panda or anyone else here. It stands as stated. Unless you can show me a forum rule that I and all other members MUST share our personal info with everyone here, you'll have to be satisfied with my explanation. I prefer to remain a "clean slate" for now. Call me paranoid or whatever but that's my choice, sorry.
You bring up the issue of the "gentlemanly thing to do". I see a lot of insults and personal attacks flying around on this forum. Do you consider that to be the "gentlemanly thing to do"? You also claim that it's "unfair" to have an advantage in a debate. How so? I did some formal debating in high school. I don't recall any protocol that insisted that opponents in a debate must share or disclose everything they have on their side. Isn't gaining an legal advantage what it's all about in any debate or competition like sports, for example? After I post enough times on this forum, you should be able to easily discern my strengths and weaknesses.

REMF? Ha ha! I haven't heard that in years. You're right, there was no such animal as a rear echelon motherf*cker in Nam in those bad old days. The closest I got to going in country was the one day that I spent cruising up and down the Mekong riding a PBR with the "brown water" Navy guys.
No Saigon Tea for me. I was addicted to the black mud that was Navy coffee. You had to let it brew for a day or so to get it real good and strong. The stuff was so strong that a spoon could almost stand straight up in the cup!

That shit would keep you awake for days at a time! That was a good thing because overseas in a liberty port, there was no time to sleep!
