I have been trying to avoid the forums latley because i find that they cut into my social life but I want to ask this group of highly informed people this question. I feel that we are at an important point in our history, another social revolution if you will, and it is importants to ask these questions from time to time to stay on track. The democrats need some balls, are they starting to find their courage or are they still pussies?

What can I say.....hope springs eternal.
As I have been saying all along, there are 23 good Dems. Yes, we need more than that and I am hoping all 44 of them along with Jeffords will stick together through this trying time, and all the other trying times the Rs have in store for them. But they do have some fight in them right now.
Sure wish thay had started out this way. Sure wish they will continue to think more of the country than they do of their own special circumstances.
We really need a better system in this country!

yep!.. you have it... I see no "Balls", no "Pussies" on the radar screen. However, I feel the Democrats are more "full speed ahead" now than 6 months ago.
It just very well be, we are now getting our act together. Democrat party that is..

I am really not into the 'balls vs pussies' business. Why is everything good male and everything bad female?
Aside from that, I do believe the Dems are finally getting a hint they are goners if they don't fignt the right. Heck, they sure have had enough hints.
I, too, cringe every time I hear a Dem stroking an Rs ego. Rs NEVER say good things about Dems. But the Dems are stuck with their manners and courtesy. As the Rs would say, how quaint. Decent people deserve manners and courtesy, Rs in the government are not decent people.
But the only thing that really counts is the vote. If Reid can hold the Dems to this and there are six Rs that get the big picture Frist will be toast.
We do have to keep calling and faxing--they have to know we care about our country!

Dr. Dean my not be all things to all people, but watch Face the Nation Tomorrow, Sunday 5-22.
I have watched and seen the Demo's make their fights. No, they don't do all that I might want them too. But they do a lot more than they have in the past few years to stand up to the neurocrons. Examples. The several very notable discussions over Bushco's apointments. The fight over the nuclear option. The ANWR debate. Now let me explain! Yes, we lost many of these issues. But, the centrists were watching! We may lose these battles, but the political cost to the Repukes has been much more than they considered. Every time an evangelical becomes political, gets on TV and demands the country "listen to gods will" the Rethugs lose votes! Every time they point out that their church votes helped elect GeeDub, the Rethugs get weaker.
The 2006 vote is a year and a half away. We have less than 18 months to counter what the Repugs have spent 2 or 3 decades putting into place. So far it's going very well. Remember, your average voter doesn't bother to vote, unless it's a crisis! Right now the Repugs flanked by the neocons on one wing and the Evangelical fundies on the other have created that crisis. The centrists are fully aware, and the Nuclear debate is only uses the very same framing techniques the repugs have used for years to make them look power hungry, which scares every freedom loving American shitless!
I predict 2006 will fall one of two ways.
Either the centrists will see what we progressives have been trying to point out for almost 6 years now, and the Repugs will be swept out of congressional power. At which point the progressives can begin the long process of rebuilding and redirecting the country towards a better future. Or.....
They will not! If we are unable to send an electorial message in November 2006,
we're all majorly fucked!
The downward spiral into the darkages may well be unstoppable.
And the end of the America we all stood up in the 3rd grade and pledged allegance too!
Today, this Red -vs- Blue fight isn't simply politics.
It's a choice, a decision.
America's future?
or
America backwards?
Yes, some of the Dems have shown their backbone!
These are who we should and will support!
Most Americans don't want to lose our country the way the Germans did in the 30's.
The question is, will most of us do anything to stop it?
Let the progressive enabling begin!

VERY GOOD OBSERVATION DORI!
An example of Framing we have been socially conditioned with!
See, we aren't always as progressive as we want to be!
Using these terms reinforces the Repugnican theme of male domination.
Are we ok with this?
This is part of the old world values these Fundies refer to as "Family Values".
Makes me wanna barf with all the hypocricy!

Are the Democrats gonna find a spine? I don't know, but I DO know that if they do it won't be theirs. They have shown themselves to be the lowest order of worms, and I can only hope they infest the lowest form of jackal, Republicans, and devour them from within, which seems to be their current location.

Thank you, dori, for reminding me of that most incorrect concept. The connotation of something or someone having "balls" in order to be strong is WRONG, and I apologize for using it. I should've known better. In fact, it seems that those who have led the way to good changes in so many instances were 'cloven, not crested;' people like Emma Willard, Ernestine King, Elizabeth Blackwell, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Clara Barton, Victoria Woodhall, Nellie Bly, Carrie Chapman Catt, etc. etc. etc.
It's like asking why the term MASTER is a title of respect and the term MISTRESS isn't.

Catherine, I know you didn't mean anything sexist by the term. It is just that I have spent so much of my life fighting for women's rights, I am sensitive to the connotation.
Actually, I am for human rights--or for that matter, rights for living beings whatever form they are. I am still fighting for those Monarch butterflies.
But now I am mostly fighting for America!

Food for thought : if a
real change could be brought about by voting, voting would be out-lawed.

"Are the Dems starting to find a Spine?"
I voted No. According to the Nother American Spine Society, your spine is in real trouble if there is a weak spot in it. The Dems are the other way 'round. The Dems have a few solid ballsey (can I get away with this ladies?) members. Not enough to say the Dems are starting to find a spine. Not yet. I would have expected them to change a lot real quick, but as we have it, it's basically business as usual.
