just a second of your time to let you know my background......a couple items on my lifetime resume includes:

1) Union Steward for IBEW and ABG (now the steelworkers)

2) Elected union committeperson for ABG along with safety rep for the local.

3) Union Orgainizer for SEIU Local 22 out of Chicago

4) Past Factory and ALunimum mill worker

5) Have worked both hourly and salary jobs.....including in managment of auto body shops in which I watch vehicle owners get screwed daily by the insurance industry. Did you know there are now body shops owned by car insurance companies? I also am a certified DuPont automotive finisher, so not only do I know how to boss pepole around, I have also done the task and know the headaches, as I painted cars daily....Just got over a year long fight of a herniated disc that happened in the work place.....you know, where the insurance company tries to starve you out, then tries to get you to settle "light"

6) Past Service Manager, and Internet sales manager of a General Motors Dealership....but fired when I came down with bronchitis....long story and its not over...LOL

I have always stood up for the "working class" even when they would not stand up for themselves.....

oh yeah, I have even worked in sales for a hockey team.....

I am happily single with zero children!

Just putting some facts with a name....

I hate Insurance Companies.

More often than not it's Profit over People.

BTW, We're Neighbors. I'm in the Western 'Burbs.

Thanks, Rob. biggrin.gif
I'm deeply pro-union myself!
It serves the Cheap Labor Conservative agenda to be against unions.

Wall-Fart....prime example. Meat cutters tried to organize in the south at a couple of their Chinese stores. Mall-Wart's response was to shut down all the meat cutter departments in the south. Nice. (80% of their political donations go to pukes.)
If they could hire little kids in their stores...they would. They already do at sweatshops overseas. I will never enter one of their stores. 5 of the 10 richest Merkins are Waltons. Unfuckingbelievable that people shop there at all...surely they have alternatives. I do.

And yes, I realized that my insurance company was in cahoots with auto body shops when they "recommended" two to me. I had thought that a conflict of interest. "Not so" they said, it was to get me the best deal. (?)

Look for the Union Label!!!!

(Good luck with the bronchitis situation.)

THe shop that I run was independent of the direct repair (HMO-type) repair programs, how can a person that does not own the car, legally authorize the repair and direction of such repair? But we will save that for another thread, I have some buddies in Springfield that are doing a great job getting us some new laws, that are actually being enforced by our democrat ATG.....In fact it wont be too long and the insurance company has to fully disclose what has always been....you are free to choose the shop of your choice, read your insurance contract (policy) language....if they elect to repair your car, they owe what ever money it takes to PROPERLY repair at a shop of your choice......

Seamus......I worked out of the Quad City office of SEIU....but we are in the same state....I live about 20 minutes from the Moline, IL Airport, in a small little ag-based-republican-farm-subsidised city......and the Speaker of the House has an office here.....oh yeah, two gun plants as well...running three shifts to protect from terror cry.gif , one is called the Springfield Armory.....

The Quad City area (part of it is Moline, IL) is the home of the John Deere Plow...now that its all no till farming, they sell health insurance HMO's...and treat independent doctors like they are the mob.....so all the doctors consolodate, making Canada's plan look better and better.....

Growing up (before NAFTA even) seen several, International Harvester, Case, CAT, and John Deere plants close....and the most recent was Case-New Holland that left to go to Hastings, Non-union Nebraska, so they can get combine assembly labor for $11 an hour (meat packing wages).....ever worked on an assembly line, it sucks! Most of the plants closed after Regan said it was ok to fire people on strike....and a little history lesson, the REPUBLICANS used a fillibuster to prevent the "striking worker" law from passing under Clinton......the media rips us off daily without telling the whole story, and my mind is like an elephant (and so is my beer belly)

Well, my legs are tired from my soapbox.....looks like we have lots of threads to start now!

Sadly I've never been to Moline.

I grew up back east in NY and Massachusetts. I've been here 15 years. There is plenty of Illinois that I've not seen.

I was a Prototype Machinist/Tool Maker/Model Maker for 25 years. I know about rapid de-industrialization firsthand.
