This is a liberal forum, a good liberal forum.
Because of this fact this forum has been attacked several times.
It's operating system has been hacked and shut down at least twice.

This forum is a collection of people.
Though some of us view things similarly, no two of us are the same.
To wrap us all up into one ball is entirely unfair.

I just have to admit that I'm a little dissapointed.

We'll fight and die for your right to have your views and express those views however you want. Because you come into a "liberal" forum (whatever that means) and your conservative views are argued against by the members doesn't prove anything other than liberal forum members will argue with a conservative that happens to enter and espouse their views. This is a surprise to you?

Only in the fact that the democratic party still has both conservative and liberal members. The republicans have purged all of the liberals from their ranks but the liberals are still willing to share a party with their conservative bretheren. The POAC and its forum has nothing to do with the democratic party

You have no reason to be banned. You didn't break any rules that i am aware of. This is a progressive political discussion forum for like-minded individuals. Not a political debate forum. That's a common misperception amoung a lot of new visitors. Don't be surprised that your views weren't welcomed warmly.

You spent some breath comparing the left to the right regarding tolerance. If I had the time today, i'd go to free republic and conservative underpants, err.... i mean underground, and share my views and cut and paste the results. Not only would I be banned but my posts would be altered to make me look foolish or just straight up deleted. And that's fine. They can do that. That's their forum and that's how they do things. One big difference, though, is that the freepers and the PWICs and other right wingers organize and try to shut us and other progressives down or otherwise disrupt what we have going on here. You don't see liberals or progressives "infiltrating" forums with other viewpoints and trying to disrupt them. So therein lies the difference. We ARE tolerant, but if you come into our house as a guest and share unpopular viewpoints, you will be treated pretty badly. That's just common sense.

POAC, therein lies the problem. You say that I'm a Conservative. Nothing could be further from the truth. I don't consider myself to be either a Lib or a Con. That's why my voter registration has always been as an Independent. My viewpoints on the issues of today are on both sides of the political spectrum. For example, I'm pro-choice on the issue of abortion and I see nothing wrong with gay marriage. On the other side, I'm against gun control and I am a strong advocate of controlling government spending on all the entitlement programs (welfare, medicare, eg.) it provides. Entitlements are fine and dandy but I don't want to turn this country into a cradle to grave Socialist society like Sweden or Denmark as some want. But some people on this forum have instantly labeled me and others as "neocons" and "facists" and "right wingers" simply because we dare to question the viewpoints of the liberal posters here. I've been called mentally deficient and stupid because I don't happen to buy into the various conspiracy theories being espoused by some here. In my humble opinion, when the name calling and flame throwing begins, it's a sure sign that the person is completely intolerant of any viewpoints other than their own.

Well, thanks for that. I don't want to completely burn my bridges. When you say that this is a "progressive political discussion forum for like-minded individuals" and not a debate forum, does that mean that questioning someone's viewpoint during a "discussion" if you don't agree with them is not acceptable here? Disagreeing normally leads to a debate, doesn't it? Or must we just agree to disagree?

It's sad that some forums ban posters for merely expressing opposing viewpoints. Where's the fun in having a forum in which everyone agrees with each other all the time? I don't mind being challenged on my viewpoints. After all, that's the point of most forums, isn't it? However, there's a big difference between being challenged and being called names and demonized merely for having a differing opinion and asking questions. Name calling doesn't accomplish a damn thing. In my opinion, all it does is destroy the credibility of the name caller.

With all due respect, I disagree with your opinion that liberals don't infiltrate forums in an attempt to disrupt them. I see trolls of all political persuasions, including liberals, on almost every forum that I belong to. That said, I despise any troll, be it a Con or a liberal. There's no place for them, ever. Let them join a troll forum and disrupt each other!

Rakshasa, thanks for that. Maybe I will stick around and see what develops. I just wish that the heated rhetoric thrown around here wasn't so personal in nature. I'm a big boy and have a thick skin but as my pappy used to say, "you will always catch more flies with honey than with vinegar"!

That's my bad. I didn't read any of the threads you were referring to. I was just making an assumption. Sorry about that. Alli can say is that we have members who draw conclusions too quickly (myself included, apparently ) and have pretty bad manners. Don't let that chase you off. Stick around, prove them wrong, make them eat their words. And please accept my apologies for the treatment you recieved.

As far as there being left wing trolls, sure there are. I've been known to pop in on the Hannity forum and disprove one of Seans latest lies, but I've never seen any organized effort on the part of progressives to disrupt or shut down a right wing forum. Of course, i may have just missed that. But I'd be pretty surprised.

One last thing. It's that very thing (winger invasions, cyber attacks, harrassment, etc etc) that makes some of our members pretty quick to attack and ill tempered. We've had our fair share and some folks around here are really vigilant to prevent another. Sometimes too vigilant, but their heart is in the right place.

I don't blame the defense from either side....it would be like going to a religous forum and posting that you feel there is 'no God'....people here are not afraid to stand up for what they have come to know is right!

Sky, You're absolutely right. I couldn't agree with you more. I can rant and rave with the best of them! Rantin' and ravin' can be a good thing IF one has the facts and figures to back it up with. What I don't care for is a ranter or raver who does nothing but call people names and scream out vulgarities in their postings. That serves no purpose whatsoever.
