Ok, this whole filibuster thing is not my area of expertise, so maybe you people can help me with a few questions.

1. When are the repugs going to try this?

2. Can the dems filibuster the filibuster decision?

3. Do the repugs really think there will be no backlash to this?

4. Would 50 republicans vote for this?

5. Will the democrats really shut down the senate or will they pussy out?

6. Who will be hurt more by this? The republicans for getting rid of the filibuster or the democrats for shutting down the senate?

7. Would all of this wake people up, finally?

Ok, this whole filibuster thing is not my area of expertise, so maybe you people can help me with a few questions.

1. When are the repugs going to try this?

If it's going to happen, it should be soon, before DeLay screws the pooch

2. Can the dems filibuster the filibuster decision?

The Dems have said they would shut down government. They seem to be real. Example, the ethics committee has finially decided to investigate DeLay. But the Dems won't participate because they say the Repugs have changed the rules. Also, the Dems got a Repug to cross over on the Bolton Nomination. I'm sure the RNC was more shocked than the Dems were!

3. Do the repugs really think there will be no backlash to this?

The Repugs feel they have God on their side, or at least the American evangelicals and with this they have the power of a politcal land slide! In other words, the so called political capitol Bush spoke of, was never as much as he thought it was, and what he had was spent long ago! Witness the Liberal Rebound!

4. Would 50 republicans vote for this?

Possible, but I doubt it. Most Repugs are not Neocons. Most Repugs realize that should they lose the majority they are solidly screwed without the Filibuster.

5. Will the democrats really shut down the senate or will they pussy out?

The Dems have said they would shut down government. They seem to be real. Example, the ethics committee has finially decided to investigate DeLay. But the Dems won't participate because they say the Repugs have changed the rules. Also, the Dems got a Repug to cross over on the Bolton Nomination. I'm sure the RNC was more shocked than the Dems were!

6. Who will be hurt more by this? The republicans for getting rid of the filibuster or the democrats for shutting down the senate?

In my opinion, in the sort term loss of the filibuster would be a victory for the Repugs. But over the longer haul it woudl desperately hurt the Repugs. MOST Americans Value their constitution, and either way, the Repugs look like monsters! The Dems are framing the discussion! The Dems are using the Repug rhetoric against them!

7. Would all of this wake people up, finally?

people are awake with more waking up every day.
Recall past elections. The bumper stickers of the winners stayed on for years! How many Bush/Cheney bumper stickers do you see today?? Even Repugs are disgusted! Literally, Bush will be lucky to finish this term. He is effectively a lame duck, a neutered lame duck! The liberal rebound won't happen in a week or two. This will build momentum, but will take years! America isn't done yet! We've had a case of the neocons, but we're feeling much better now!
tamara
yes it will happen. repugs aren't worried about the voter because most of them don't know WTF a fillibuster is.

bush doesn't care b/c he's a lame duck.

the rest of the repugs don't care b/c they can blame it on bush.

democrats are big pussies and they wouldn't be in this situation if they hadn't played doormat for the last 20 years.

god, i miss tip o'neil.

I disagree, I think that the "thinking" Repugs have to realize that it is political sucide. If they lose the majority they would not have recourse, and if they lose the majority it will be for quit sometime, because the next generation will REMEMBER what they have done to thie country.

Oh, Tamara, I miss Tip O'Neil too, and he was from my home state...

I think the Repugs will rattle sabers and stand with the legs apart posture, looking for all the world like they really care, but they can't do away with the fillibuster option without shooting themselves in the foot. Frist is going to try for a presidential nomination in 2008, and he's just selfish and mean enough to leave the Senate after having helped load the gun that shoots his fellow Repugs in the balls..er, the foot. The Repugs won't always hold that majority UNLESS they really believe that they're fireproof, and about the only way they are is for the voting machine debacle to continue on way past 2006 and 2008.

The Repugs that are wanting to use this Nuclear option are the Bush repugs, not the REAL repugs. Sure, you've got bad with the Real ones, but the Bush Repugs are the horrible, booger-eating bastards who would trample on the Constitution and replace it with the bible if they could.

I am ashamed to say I see a hell of a lot of them here. I got behind an old rattletrap yesterday. It was spitting out all kinds of nasty-smelling, cancer-causing emissions, and its bumpers were plastered with Bush-Cheney and Proud to be American stickers. The driver had no teeth and his shotgun passenger wore an old baseball cap pulled down over his eyes. Just the type of suckers who voted for Bush.

I'm afraid you're right about the bumper stickers Cath, I see it on the SUVs and the rat trap pickups that you described. Yesterday I saw one with another bumper sticker that said "Work hard 8 million people on Welfare depend on you" Man you want to talk about road rage, I was tempted to cut that bastard off and get out of my vehicle and give him a piece of my mind.

Another example is a friend of ours who always voted Democratic, but voted and supported Bush, he feels that the left has moved to far over to the center. I was so pissed, that I think I ruined that friendship, I just couldn't get pass that Right Wing brainwashing, it's pathetic. For everything he said I corrected him and he AGREED....what are we dealing with.

The threat to shut down government is a threat to me personally. My husband and I are federal employees. wry2.gif

And yet, I don't want the GOP to get away with this latest attempt at bullying.

Damn was he a great politician.

A fine Gentleman, bi-partisan to a fault. He was respected on both sides of the aisle.

Now there's a man I would have liked to have had a beer with.

Hahahahaaa...no, I usually do a great job of ruining my OWN day by reading the news online and listening to the radio.
It's not your fault that there isn't wonderful news every day about the whole world working together to improve instead of destroy things.

I do love to see good news, though.

That "vision thing" tends to be a double edged sword, eh? wink.gif

I hear that the pugs are calling reid now, trying to find some middle ground on the issue. It looks like they may be trying to back away from this idea.

As well as they should, becuase they will not maintain power for ever, then they are going to be screaming because that options gone....
