How can people just dump their pets, regardless of their situations? They sure as hell don't dump their kids. wall.gif

HINESVILLE, Ga. - The 32 dogs look up with sad eyes or wag their tails as animal control officer Linda Cordry walks the row of chain-link cages toward a door concealing a gas chamber. "These guys are mine," Cordry says with weary resignation. "These are basically on Death Row."

I know Cath, I live in Augusta, GA and we have the same problem here. I volunteer for a Rescue group and we try to do the best we can. Animal Services take in over 10,000 dogs and cats a year and destroy 8,000. It's said to walk down the aisle and seeing this beautiful animals looking at you wantly, needed a scratch on the ear, a hug, a kiss, the need to sleep on your couch or bed, the need to be loved again. It pains me to see it, it pains be so much that I don't go to the shelter anymore, we get enough turn-ins without going out there....it is so sad.

You're not too far from me, Doc..I'm in Western NC, 2 hours north of Atlanta. Here, animals are being abandoned all the time, by the same people who are in the amen corner at their church every damned time their church door is open. evil.gif

Before our garbage dump sites were staffed, the dumpsters were the favorite places for these good Christian folk to abandon unwanted dogs, cats, and kittens.

Someone dumped our Mollycat out in front of my sister's house during a spring thunderstorm. Our Saber and Charlie are both refugees who had owners who didn't particularly care where they were during cold winter nights. They took refuge at our house, and here they still are. We rescued Abby Road, our much beloved lab mix, from the middle of a busy mountain highway. She was so eaten up with fleas and parasites, we were afraid we wouldn't be able to save her, but we did. We had her for four wonderful years when she had a heart attack and died on her bed, completely unexpectedly last July. We still miss her terribly.

My son brought home a poor, starved kitten he'd found at the dumpster. It was emaciated with an upper respiratory infection. It's eyes were matted shut, and all it could do was give a pitiful meow. I called my vet immediately, and he told me to meet him at his office. There, he did what he could...started an iv, cleaned out the poor thing's eyes, and tried to save it. Unfortunately, we were too late. But at least, I hope it knew that, there at the end, it had love and attention.
