Scientists have developed a new device called ReWalk, which can help those paralyzed below the waist in performing their daily functions.
The system requires crutches to help with balance and consists of motorized leg supports, body sensors and a backpack.
Individuals, who use the new technology, need to wear the backpack device braced on their legs. They can select the activity they want to perform using a remote control wrist band.
The user can stand, sit, walk, descend or climb using the device as it mimics the exoskeleton of a crab. Leaning forward activates body sensors setting the robotic legs in motion.
"It raises people out of their wheelchair and lets them stand up straight," says Amit Goffer, the inventor of the device.
