Or so says my computer. I get a warning anytime i try to access any part of this website. It says you may be trying to download viruses onto my computer. That should probably be looked in to.
POAC
Yeah, that's probably the active-x controls necessary for the dynamic buttons up at the top.

I haven't had any problems
Jack

do you have a google toolbar? You might want to get rid of it if you do, as google is probably the largest data mining consortium in the world.

as far as virus warnings, and fake virus warnings, you might want to try avira antivir... go to freewarefiles.com and search "avira"

Seuss,

The issue isn't so much about fixing the problem for Jack. I don't think Jacks all that worried about the site.
The issue is about any visitor here that's not registered who might encounter the same warnings and be scared off.
As such, TJ's question is a good one and this should be figured out so he knows if this is an isolated situation or not.

I'm posting this using Firefox with Norton Phishing filter. No extra messages yet.
POAC
This is just all aftermath of the freepers haching us and installing viruses on our server. I've since changed hsoist and the problems won't occur anymore, but the reporting mechanism is doing shoddy work, in my opinion.

128+ views, I guess it's not all that dangerous!

OK, I just got an email saying that there's a virus embedded in the forum. No details, but I've already been dealing with tech support from both the forum and my webhost and they haven't seen or said anything. If anyone can supply me with any details regarding what warnings they are receiving, that would be very appreciated.

That was me...Just got back home...Yes it acted like the same virus that was on POAC mainsite @ a year ago. It appears now to be OK, but I reset the computer I WAS on to an earlier date to get rid of the Trojan, since it's running barefoot. The computer I'm on now doesn't show anything suspicious, but we're running a scan as we post. The site locked up the browser just as soon as you went to scroll down the main page, and it did it in both Firefox and Explorer a total of 3 times on me.

Do we need to get our tinfoil hat out...maybe our great homeland security is at it again!? I suppose this trojan is a keylogger just like the last one, only they put it on at will. tinfoilhat.gif

Thanks! I just got a message that my spy blocker was blocking w1.madway.net/u. I have tech support on it.
POAC
All clear!

We had several issues going on.

One was we were getting hammered by bots and spiders and that was draining CPU resources and slowing us down. We've got that resolved.

Two was someone was able to hack into the message board and insert a remote-hosted virus. Not really harmfuil, more of a pest to give the POAC a bad rep. That's been resolved as well.

Thanks Boss, and thanks to Jack for asking about it.
Jimmy
I am having the same problem as Jack.

The front page loads fine, but when I click to come to the forum, I get this warning screen instead of the link I clicked on. I get this screen on all of the subforums, any topic, and with the search function.

This screen makes using the search function and the "View New Posts' link on the first page of the forum impossible to use because I get that warning instead of what I was searching for and if I click "Ignore this warning" instead of search results I get a screen about the forum search flood control and are told to wait (however many seconds) before searching again.

If I click the "Why this site was blocked" link on the warning screen, I get this.

The numbers of trojans and infections have gone up since I first encountered this problem on Wednesday (I think it was Wednesday).

This problem is not caused by my antivirus program. My computer is a multiboot system, I get this problem with Firefox 3.0 on Windows XP X64, Windows Vista Ultimate, and Ubuntu 8.04 Linux. I do not get it with Internet Explorer (on XP anyway, I haven't tried that on Vista). I don't have the same AV program on all three OS's yet I get the exact same screen.

I'm not here to nag, this problem may be driving people away and could give the forum a bad name.

It certainly kept me away for 3 days and I think I'm pretty computer savvy so I imagine others are having the problem and staying away.

It may also be the early stages of a serious problem.

If I can do anything to help you guys figure it out, please let me know.
Jimmy
Oh, and another thing. It makes posting to the Forum almost impossible. It logs you out at random times, so if you type something up, like that above, and click "submit" you get the warning screen, when you click it away, you get the login screen.

I had to type the message, copy it to a notepad document, click submit, login again, go back to the topic, paste it in the response box, click submit, and then it appeared. For every comma in that sentence there was also a warning page I had to click ignore on.

Today, Jimmy? It's still happening?
Send a message to TJ just in case, eh?
What a pain, but thanks for all the documentation.
That helps.
Jimmy
Still happening. I'll send TJ a message.
POAC
Thanks, jimmy.

OK here's where we're at: I've contacted google and put in a ticket for a re-evaluation to get taken off the list. Unfortunately, it may take a few weeks. No exceptions. Now the question I have... Is it a plug-in or add-on that is making people get that warning message? Can it be removed or disabled?

Good call.

On Firefox 3.0, you can click the Tools menu, select options from the menu, click the Security tab, and then uncheck the box that says "Tell me if I am visiting a suspected attack site."

The site goes back to working normally, but it leaves you unprotected from real attack sites. There is no way that I could find to just make an exception for one suspected attack site.

I'll keep an eye on it over the next few weeks and see if you ever get delisted as a suspected attack site.
karen
YES! I'm in and posting!! clap.gif - Been trying this for days! wall.gif
Thanks for the top-tip TJ!

Anyone else having trouble posting using firefox - in tools, got to options, then security, then uncheck the box which says 'tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected attack site'.
sky of mind
This is interesting in that it hits some people, but not all people.
I've played a bit using Firefox and I've had no problems. Checked Jimmy's security thing and it's at default.
And why does it bother Firefox sometimes and Explorer never? (Even explorer with Norton phish filter)
That tends to make me think it's a Firefox plug in that's causing the issues.

Edit to add.....

Good to see you again Karen. I had assumed your life got busy with the summer. Hope you're doing well. dance.gif

I just logged on using Opera browser and din't get the issue as I did with Firefox.
Jimmy
Are you using Firefox 3.0 Sky?

Either way, you might try looking in your options and see if there is an option for attack site warning. Maybe older versions don't have that option or don't turn it on as default.

I think it's just a feature of the latest version of FF. I didn't turn the feature on and I didn't download any kind of security plug-in. If it's something that got installed after I installed FF3.0 (some kind of third party plug in), it's pretty slick because it also worked in the Linux and Vista version of FF3.0.

Whatever, we know the answer to make it work right now.

I think to be safe I'll try it every couple of days to see if/when the warning goes away/comes back. Just to make sure that no winger shenanigans (if that's what originally caused the problem) go unnoticed and turn into a bigger problem.

FWIW, my Virus Scan has never picked up anything from this site so I don't think it ever was the problem that the warning screen made it out to be.

Still sucks if it's scaring would-be new forums members away.
sky of mind
Normally I use IE, but I did play with Firefox to see if I could get those results. Never did. It always worked just fine.

It work I don't have the option and also ise IE. However, I spect those axctive x buttons at the top help keep me from being able to post. The company has heavy filters, but generally if they don't want you doing something, the whole site redirects you to their home page. (FurunoUSA.com) I can't imagine they would let me access the site (I can log in) but not post, unless something like the active x buttons tweaked the filters. Usually if I am persistant enough, meaning log back in over and over, I can get a post eventually done.
sky of mind
OK, I have finally gotten the Google site warning page.

It happened on IE when I clicked on POAC/bb from a google search page.
The terrible thing is the damned warning page will NOT let you go past it.
Although, if I copy paste into a new tab, it works just fine!

Clearly, the issue is a Google issue and not a browser thing. At least, this time it was.
