Full Version: A Little Disturbing

Jack
So i was bored this weekend and since today was such a beautiful day, i decided to spend it in my room, messing around on the internet. I went on yahoo questions, posed as a republican, and asked some pretty outrageous questions, mostly about obama. Might as well make the republicans look bad and fire up the democrats with my free time. I asked things like "Did you know obama said he would raise taxes by 1600%" or "he wants to charge families $1000 a year in taxes to have a dog" or "obama said his favorite book was mein kampf". While most people either seemed pissed by such outrageous accusations or saw right through what i was doing, i would say about 10-15% of the people took what i was saying as fact and didn't question it. And as far as i could tell, most were not joking. I find that a bit disturbing that so many people will take even the most outrageous, unbelievable garbage and assume it is true, for no reason. I guess it shows the dangers of blind hate (or of being a total idiot).

I am beginning to think that maybe i shouldn't do that again, for fear that something i said might start spreading around the internet, like so many other bullsh*t rumors.

ohmy.gif Why, Jack! Welcome to reality! wink.gif

I think it was Circus Master PT Barnum who had the best statement to cover what Jack has discovered.

"There's a sucker born every minute"

Better yet, a quote from our dear George W Bush.

“You can fool some of the people all the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on.”

Most people are stupid. I am sorry to say it, but it is true.

My mother I think represents your standard middle aged white woman. I love my mother, but she is stupid. I realized the pinnacle of her stupidity when she came down stairs from the kitchen and announced to me she was warming the microwave for when she puts food in it. I asked what she was talking about. She explained since we were going to eat left overs and would be warming them in the microwave, she was "warming" the microwave up before we put the food in it. I went to the kitchen and sure enough, the microwave was on with nothing in it.

My mother voted for Bush twice, watches Fox, and has on occasion forwarded some garbage right wing emails to me as fact, which I quickly slam with a simple google search.

The 25% of the population that supports Bush will always support him no matter what he does. What is scary to me is how these people, like Bill O'reilly, or Mary Matalin, or Michelle Malkin actually believe what they say. These people are not Charles Manson; they actually have a large audience that believes their garbage.

I'm actually somewhat impressed it was that low!

And yes, people are stupid. One of the only intelligent things the radical libertarian author Terry Goodkind said was, "People are stupid. They will believe any lie, either because they want it to be true, or they are afraid that it might be."

Im not sure why this is so revealing. In fact, surprised the percentage was that low.

But I do have a question and I am sure you know the answer. Gun control. What do you see as his REAL position?

considering his "clinging to religion and guns" comment, I'm pretty sure he's in favor of it... and I don't mean having better aim. It doesn't really matter though, because the supreme court is about to re-enforce the second ammendment tomorrow by calling the DC handgun ban unconstitutional.
