In a stunning update from about two months ago, US crude oil consumption is projected to be down 2% from 2007. That projection is 10x higher than it was in April. The U.S. energy department projected a few days ago that U.S. oil consumption would be 440,000 fewer barrels per day compared to 2007 (20.7 million a day). That means the United States will use 160 million fewer barrels of oil this year compared to last. This is due to a combination of decreased demand for crude oil and the use of biofuels.
