How significant is this to the republican race? Will McCain survive this assault on the neocon agenda? What will this book accomplish?
soon2b
It avoids the disclosure of the neocon/PNAC agenda. By making it seem that Bush was misled by his advisors and fell victim to the "permanent campaign mentality" of the world outside of Texas, it evades the underlying truth that the invasion of Iraq was the plan before Bush even took office. It might help to make McCains's vow to do away with said permanent campaign mentality a bit more plausible to those already inclined to believe him.
Jimmy
I think McClellan is being manipulated into writing a first draft of history that throws Bush and Rove under the bus (not that they don't share the blame) and gives the real NeoCon machine a pass so there will be no resistance to them keeping their office in the new McCain admin.

I could even see McClellan getting a position in the McCain machine an emblem of the change the new McCain admin will bring to the White House - the repentant sinner on staff to help guide the others away from sinning.

Maybe it's just that what McClellan is saying doesn't jive with my concept of the way things really are, but I just don't see this as the real version of things as they went on and I don't feel safe putting much trust in what he says.

Did it matter when Richard Clarke's book came out?
Did it matter when Ron Suskind's multiple books about disillusioned administration officials came out?
Did it matter when John Dean's book came out?
Did it matter when Joe Wilson's book came out?

No, none of it made any difference. People (mostly on the Left) read the books, reinforced their views, and then did nothing. The American People as a whole remained lazy, comfortable, and completely incapable of demanding accountability from the most corrupt administration in American history. If Congress won't do it, people, it's up to you to make them. I doubt I'm the only one emailing my representatives on a weekly basis, but there clearly aren't enough.

It DID matter when Dean testified and he named names.
Scotty is a Bush insider, as much a member of the core inner circle as there can be.
If he talks, and he names names, it's a big deal.

Now, will he testify and make everything he said into a legal statement?
Why? Dominos. If one of the cabal should wind up in court one day, every domino down works towards a conviction.

I'm with Sooner and Jimmy on this. I think the whole thing serves to cover-up or circumvent the broader (and still relevant/operant) neocon/PNAC agenda by focusing solely on GW et al.

With or without Scotty, there WILL be aspects of this whole Neo-con adventure that will never see the light of day. That's how it always is throughout history! We might as well steel ourselves to that reality right now. There will be some aspects that are not yet known, that will never be known.

Yes, I want as much as possible exposed right now, but I know that everything exposed simply will not happen. It's quite possible that if you knew everything, that you might also not want everything revealed.

That does not mean we can't use what IS known, and use it through the political and legal system that already exists. This can also be used in a court of puplic opinion, and we can all see in todays poll numbers, as well as election results! They call it, "Bush Fatigue".

Even though Bush's term will end in a few months, the episode is far from complete. Come January 19(?) a some mythical page will not be turned and the past will be forgotten. Oh no! Far from it! Another chapter in the continuing story will only have been begin.

Bush is the center ONLY because he is the president and ultimately the one in charge. But remember, George is not, and was never a member of the PNAC. (can there be any doubt in the deliberateness of this fact?) When George becomes a citizen again, the playing field flattens out considerably.

I can't wait for the slew of tell-alls that will come out after he's out of office... There have got to be plenty of people that don't want a job in a right wing think-tank, and are disgusted with what they're doing, yet don't have the balls to come out publicly against the administration. With a democratic, bloodthisty band of reformers looking to make an impact running the show, and taking their mandate seriously once they have the White House, there are sure to be some fun times ahead!

permanent caveat: anytime I speak of the upcomming democratic supermajority, I know that the pubelickin' machine could very well work to steal another election, or shut it down entirely.

Understood. let's hope than with Obama as leader of the Democrats that he is aware and that he will lead on the effort for fair and verifiable elections.

After all, without this foundation stone firmly in place, nothing else can be secure.

I'm not entirely sure why you quote me before going on to post this, Sky.

My comment was about the circumvention of the full neocon/PNAC story by this 'expose'. The problem/danger with that being that the PNAC agenda will continue beyond this administration, with or without the overt support of the next.

You opinion does not seem to contradict mine, but neither does it seem to agree with mine.

Lady, if you had my weekend........
Mom is now in a nursing home where she will live the rest of her life. (Healthy mind, body is crapped out) And now we're working to get her house on the market. This means 30 years of home occupation by two adult depression era pack rats that never seemed to throw anything away, has begun. 5 hour round trip at $4 a gallon is also interesting.

Oh no stress. Just pick a room and start sorting the crap from the good stuff.
