Washington side of the Columbia River, looking south to Oregon.

Cape Horn looking east up the Columbia River Gorge

Several shots east of Bonneville dam

Notice the climate change? The east side is much drier.

Stonehenge.

It was built by Sam Hill, (what in the sam hill is that?) and it's a WWONE memorial.
People back then actually believed that as a result of this war, there would be no more wars! Naive? Overly optimistic? I Kinda wish someone would reignite that expectation.

MaryHill Museum. It was built by Sam Hill back when Portland was still a bunch of tents and lean too's. He had a vision of one day making that area into a metropelous. He built the "house" for his wife, a New Englander. Oddly, though she did visit, she never did live there. Considering when I was there it was 98 degrees, and that's normal, I can understand why.

Although, the scenery is breath taking.

It worked out to be a 9 hour ride. The digital thermometer topped out at 98f. Ranged anywhere between 90 and 98. The wing is a road warrior and it ran like a true champion. 40 mpg too!

All in all, it was an epic ride, and a terrific day!

nice pics, but somehow, I like the original better.
where is this? I've been out there, and had no idea there was a replica around.

This one is made of cement, and as I said, it was built to be a memorial, and not really a replica.
Even so, every spring and winter solstice the local "druids" flock to the place.

It's about 100 miles east of Vancouver Wa, on the washington side. Hwy14.
The main freeway, I-84 runs up the Oregon side.

There's also the OLD highway on the Oregon side, also largely built by Sam Hill.
But that's a whole nother weekend!

Magnificent countryside Sky, but that stone circle looks more like a bunch of concrete posts to me! blink.gif unsure.gif

THAT hat went in the trunk. The law requires a skid lid, and I'd wear one even if it wasn't the law.
It's 98 degrees and I still wore boots, long pants and a heavy denim jacket while riding.

"Stonehenge" was actually dedicated twice, originally as a PEACE monument (like the Peace Arch in Blaine) but then the VFW installed a second plaque declaring it a WAR memorial.

It ties on with a bow (a big pink one) under his chin. biggrin.gif
(He's photo-shopped it out of these because he's worried it's not cool! rolleyes.gif )
