It seems like there has been a growing enthusiasm about obama on this forum (and in the democratic party) for the last few months. I am just curious where everyone is. Is is more pro-obama or anti-hillary.

I will say a 9. I wouldn't call him everything i have ever wanted in a presidential candidate but he is damn close.

I gave him an 8 because 1, he's just a human being. There is no magic in simply being smart enough to see the obvious.
I'd give Bush less than 1. Pelosi would get a 4. Reid a 3. Conyers and Wexler 6 or 7. etc etc

IMO, the fact that someone chose to be a politician, is a point or two against them right there.

Do you like him more than you did edwards or would you take edwards over obama?

I've been watching Obama now for several months. He's grown along with his following.
I'd take Obama over Edwards.

Edwards is OK, but if nothing else, that fact that Obama is black, and his name is Obama and not George, or John, or Steve, will stick it in their faces every where they go, very likely for 8 years. That might be enough time for them to get over it and get used to it. Hell, in 8 years people may not ever want plain vanilla ever again!

For awhile i was beginning to think that edwards was a good guy but then Russ Feingold brought up a good point. Edwards voted for the Patriot Act, the Iraq War, No Child Left Behind, and numerous other pro-corporate and flat out evil bush administration policies. However, he runs around the country campaigning against the things he voted for. He has been just as much apart of the problem as the people he claims to fight and while he has done some good since he left office, i haven't seen him do all that much to repent for the bad things he did.

Maxanne always said Edwards was a total hypocrite.

Yeah but i heard it was because Edwards was secretly threating her in his speeches and he was using his campaign commercials to attempt to control her mind.

His first name is Barack, not Obama.
And that comment about plain vanilla is racist.
What if a black man named Steve were running?

I gave him a 7, and I like him a great deal. Had you asked about his potential to be a great president, I'd have said an 8 or a 9. Hillary's doubts about his electability are not entirely unfounded, and in the process of implicitly making the case that she cannot overtly articulate, she's made herself unelectable. Ironically, Obama's probably the best candidate from a very good field, but the only one who could lose it, prior to Hillary's alienating half the base. McCain could arguably be the worst of a very weak Republican field, as far as they're concerned, but the only one who might possibly win.

Maxanne is a very bright and well informed person. I respect her quite a lot.
The ONLY area where I fall away is the issue of Men and Women, and all that.
IMO, she's just a bit too rabid on that issue. But even there, she's not often mistaken.

Can he be gay too? That'd be cool eh?

Oh, and by the way. Vanilla is also a sexual term from the BdSM community.
After all, I never said anything like, "Never go back after black" er something silly like that!

7. He's pretty good. But my "ideal" candidate would be condemned as some kind of socialist radical in America.

I gave him a nine. Early in the contest, I would have preferred Dodd or Richardson. I was devastated when Hillary announced she was running, not because I hated her (I didn't), but because I thought she was completely unelectable and, even if she could be elected, you better believe the Republicans would find a way to cripple her presidency and destroy her.

So, a year ago, I would have said I was anti-Clinton rather than pro-Obama (I thought he was a tenderfoot compared to Dodd or Richardson). But my estimation of Obama has grown immeasurably over time. So now I am more pro-Obama than anti-Clinton. It was a tough choice, though, because the Clintons have now fallen so low in my estimation that they always remind me of the innkeeper ("Master of the House") and his wife in Les Miserable.

Please eveerybody go to the poll I just posted and take the quick multiple choice.

PS: I see that posting my poll didn't work. I'll keep trying.

thumbup.gif I gave him an 8. I'm more pro-Obama and Anti-Hilary. She gets on my nerves! Especially after her wonderful memory of her visit to the Balkans! He is the one I think who might get to something for this country on the same model of FDR. I hope he has the strength to stand up to McSame and the talking heads of the RIGHT!
