Um.. I'm getting reports that we've got a low risk virus on the forum. Might be us. Might be from someone else on our server, since it's shared. I'm looking into it. If you aren't getting any virus alerts, it's probably because it didn't make it past your initial security. I didn't get a notification, but if you have Norton, it'll let you know about it. Anyway, it's nothing deadly, just a routine thing. I've got the experts working on it as we speak. I'll keep you all updated.

yup... It's pissing me off...

the virus label is HTML/Shellcode.Gen... its a trojan with low effect, and low frequency, but every time I load a page, it tries to worm its way in, triggering a warning. Let's get rid of this quick, shall we TJ?

Doing my best

I know you are...
It's just irritating.
I have complete faith in your abilities.

Should be fine now. Let me know if it's not.

I actually did pick up a virus here yesterday, but it did no real harm and is now in quarantine. Still getting the warnings, but I've scanned about three times since yesterday, and there's nothing there.
seuss
still get warnings when every page loads.
seuss
wait... strike that... everything's fine now.

No it's not. I just got another warning. tinfoilhat.gif

The virus must still be around. I notice that everyone is listed as belonging to the "Banned!" (sic) group. And my anti-virus program (AVG) toiled away for many minutes this morning. Please check it out again.

Will do. That "Banned" thing may have to do with the calendar date.

Gee, ya think?
Might just as well kick back and enjoy the temporary rebel status!

Seems I'm not getting the Norton flag, so the little problem musta been swept away.

Pages aren't loading properly Teej. The 'view new posts' isn't at least, and some of the others are really slow. blink.gif
Virus warning's gone though! biggrin.gif

I've got to second this... email to follow... I'd go back and copy the train of crap on the third (subforum) section of the new post screen that took at least three and a half minutes to load... except that I'm too impatient... sufficive to say there something DRASTICALLY WRONG here...

no offense, but this is just wacky.
POAC
OK, I'll get on it.
seuss
thanx tj,
This is where I get my news on...
and if I can't let it out I might explode!

(not in any illegal way, I might add.)
seuss
It seems the problem is in the "latest news" subforum.

Things seem to have shifted, the pages load faster, but I'm getting virus warnings again....
I'm not sure how this is going to work out, but things haven't gotten much better...

I didn't have any issues at work today.
At home most often Norton does it's stuff with out telling me about it.
But at work they want you to know about it so you can change your activity accordingly.

An interesting aspect. When at work and the AV warning popped up, it would keep popping up about every 30 seconds even after I logged clear off. In fact, I had to reboot to make it quit! Could just be an aspect of the network at work, I don't know. But it sure was iritating.

I hate Norton. I'm a ZoneAlerm man, myself. Either way, I'm making headway. I won't bore you with the details, but i found a sneaky sneaker-in back on March 12th. Could be the culprit with a time-released virus or I couold be totally wrong. That's why we have paid experts.

Paid experts have prevailed. Final score:

virus: 1 out of 10 points for effort
web host: 4 out of 10 points for timely response but little else
Invision Power Services: 10 out of 10 for consistently stellar support. Those guys, Jason in particular, are simply the best in the business.

Don't loose sleep over it. It's a nice feature, but if you're busy (Hah! If! lol) it's no biggy.

That virus has left bugs in my system that I can't get out. - Getting the same virus warning every time I log on and several times through each browser session, which is very annoying! dry.gif
When starting up this morning the whole system completely froze and I actually had to remove the battery to turn the laptop off and start again! When I did start again IE (which isn't my default browser) tried to start up and open at paypal.com. Every time I close that window it re-opens... still there now! ph34r.gif
I've cleared all the recent data - cashe, history, cookies, etc, I've run several avast anti-virus scans (there's nothing there to scan for! It's already in quarantine!) and I've run lavasoft ad-aware about three times.
Nothing is helping and I've exhausted my limit of technical know-how.
Any suggestions???? blink.gif

either that, or if you haven't tried it yet, update your anti virus software.

I had the same virus for two days, application Explorer.EXE with path C:\PROGRAMDATA\_QBOTHOME_\QBOT [something or other] then.EXE , ran norton, spyware doctor [the one that caught it but couldn't remove] , then downloaded and ran Hijackthis, then downoaded trial windows liveone, tried to buy Prevx csi's [which runs a free scan] 25.00 sister product which caught C:\PROGRAMDATA\_qbothome_qbotinj.exe but couldn't remove without a license for 25.00. Anyhow I was running in safemode with networkng for most of the repairs, but I ran most of the time in that anyhow because I have a Dell, that ships without enough memory for Vista, and not enough Vista either [home basic won't fax]. Try the Hijack this site or Prevx CSI scans , they're free, my computer is free, I can go back to Firefox, and just installed 2 new chips, 1gb each, bought the 'Ultimate' upgrade, finally everything works. btw was also on phone to Dell Sweden, and Microsoft Denmark, and customer service e-note with Spyware Doctor, and blog support on Dell, and Hijack this, real pita

huh?

I had the same virus Karen was alluding to, 3 days later it's gone, the 'huh?' was on my post of all the steps it took to get rid of it. If you get the qbot 'explorer/paypal' virus, it may now be in the definitions/recognized pages of anti-virus programs, but it was a damn nuisance.
