Full Version: Perpetual Winter

After a winter of nonstop sh*tty weather, from daily blizzards to crippling cold and fierce winds, i was hoping that by now, it would all be over. Unfortunately our current situation is a like any abusive relationship; once you get in, you can't seem to get out. It is almost April (in case you weren't aware of that) and it has been spring for nearly two weeks, yet there is a noticeable absence of warm weather. Sure it isn't as cold as it was in January and we have had a few days in the 40's but this my friends is not spring. In the last week, we have had two major snow storms. Before i run off to school i have to spend some time getting all of the snow and ice off of my car. Yes, the area has a lovely coating of snow because it is late March and that isn't at all odd.

At this time of year, most years, it is about 55 or 60 degrees most days but i would be hard pressed to point out days that were even in the mid 40s. Its not right!

It's snowing here this morning.
Round here snow in late march is quite rare

I remember SO many bitterly cold springs during my 30 years in northern Illinois. This bad winter thankfully has left me only a sympathetic onlooker as we've had a mild winter here in central Texas. Reading the stories of this winter's storms makes me wonder how I survived so long in the (relatively) frozen north.

I just hope no one here tries to use this anomalous winter as "proof" that there's no such thing as global warming.

Call it climate change and watch them scratch their heads! rolleyes.gif

On morning last week I got up to find two inches of hail-stones in the yard. That day it snowed, hailed and rained, and between those freaky showers was clear blue sky and fluffy white clouds!
I live in a very sheltered part of Britain. It was very confusing for me! blink.gif

The weather is all kinds of crazy up here in the mountains. Yesterday it was below freezing in the morning and in the sixties by the afternoon.

The interesting thing about this weather is how it looks outside. The sky has that spring look to it, where it is kind of hazy yet bright. However, there is also snow and since it is new, all of the trees are coated in it. Quite a unique look out there right now. Kind of a mix between spring or summer but also winter. Very strange.

Actually, I enjoy wild and unusual weather--at least when I have a way to escape it. I've seen those days with different kinds of precipitation, raging thunderstorms in January in IL, tornadoes in Dallas and IL, hurricane rains and wind, hundreds of whirlwinds, blue northers that drop temperatures thirty degrees in an hour or so, and spring hailstorms while I was on a motorcycle. But on the whole, Hawaii sounds pretty good right now.

Our conditions here in Ohio are close to the same as Jack's, but it's worth noting that while lasting until later in the year, winter weather also seems to be starting later. It's not uncommon lately to have relatively mild weather well into November.

When I lived in Montana the winter season was at least Halloween to Easter.
Used to say that Montana had two seasons. Winter and August except I've seen half a foot on the ground for days in the middle of August, so that may not be quite accurate.

When I lived on Oahu, winter was cooler and more wet. Other wise there was no difference. That low in the latitudes even the sun didn't have seasons, which for a mainlander was really hard to adjust too.

Here in the North West the saying is that you can tell winter from summer, cause in winter the rain is colder.

Same here. The winters for the last couple of years have started late - this year it didn't get really cold until late December - early January!
