Full Version: replacing a faucet. HELP

OK. So I broke the kitchen faucet last night and had to replace it today. Crazy expensive. WTF? But anyway, so I've replaced everything as it was. Connected everything to the correct piping. Nothing is amiss. But no water comes out. Yes, I've made sure the water lines have been turned back on. I can get wee tiny dribble to come out, but that's it. Any suggestions? Is there some trick I'm missing?

I've installed a couple, and I can't imagine what the issue is, other than possibly a gasket out of place?
seuss
did you turn the water source back on? (not trying to be an ass... I forrget obvious things every once in a while...)
POAC
Yes, the water source is back on. Maybe there's a gasket issue. It came assembled, so I'm afraid that maybe they screwed something up. The water has gone from drips to a trickle. Could air in the line be the problem?
POAC
OK, I've wiggled the lines a bit and it seems we've grown to a full-fledged stream. Still not what you'd want froma faucet, but it's better. And when I turn it off, and then back on again, it's the same quantity. So I'm guessing air in the liner. I may put the thing in my mouth and suck real hard. blink.gif
POAC
OK, now it's making a whining noise. It's gotta be air. Crap, maybe we don't have enough water pressure.

are you running off a well? disconect the source line, turn on the faucets until they run to a slow drip.

reconnect the source, but don't open the valve. open all faucets. open the source valve. wait until all are flowing well, then turn them all off.

We aren't on well water. Think I should still disconnect and drain the lines?

yeah, then leave them all open until they flow... if all of them flow well, you're ok... if there are some that flow better than others, remember the floor that they're on and gravity, and soak them with mineral deposit remover if necessary. blown faucets come from disruptions in even dispersion within the pipes most of the time.

Well, I just ran he dishwasher which is off of the same exact line. So the problem is definately within the two feet of pipe leading to the sink. Still think I should do that?

no, especially off the running dishwasher line...

maybe the next time you need to turn the water off.

Have you got the water pressure you want?

The water pressure from the lines by themselves is fine. Once I hook them up to the faucet... almost nothing. Super bonus: the line for cold water is hot. When I shut off the cold line, nothing changes. When i shut off the hot, the flow stops. Don't sweat this one tonight, I'm pretty close to giving up for now. Thanks for the help, you guys.

What type of faucet is it?

Big crazy crappy one. Made by Giagni. I took it out of the sink and reassembled it on the floor. Works perfectly. So we've nailed down some variables. I'm going to re-hook it up in a few minutes. Normally in situations like this, I'd just take a big crap all over it. But I can't cuz I'd have nothing to wash it off with. I'll post updates as we continue. But I think we have reached a positive point.

And my wife has been doing a photo documentary of this. The photos will be posted for your amusement. I am not amused.

If it's a single handle control type, I'd guess something was assembled wrong from your descriptions so far.

What's the model name?
sky of mind
air is not an issue.

seems something is blocking water flow, and air won't do that.
you said the cold side was hot? Could it be installed backwards?
Is it a fawcet with a single spigot and a seperate hot and cold valve?
Maybe it's designed so thatr if installed correctly, you can push or swivel the center spigot to one side to far, so at a certain point it shuts the water off so that you don't put water all over the counter top? And if installed backwards, that "safety" shut off is preventing waterflow?
POAC
I think I have it. Hold on.

So much about this post is just so wrong!

Glad though that you figured the problem out.

Congratulations, even I am speechless after that one.
POAC
Not fixed, but the only problem now is the massive leak under the sink. So we're cool. Thanks for all the help guys. I'm going to bed.

No problem. Happ to be of service.
Top tip -next time you've got a tap (faucet) that wont work, wait until the handi-woman's gone to bed, then as for help! rolleyes.gif

By the way for an air-lock in a pipe, don't suck, blow! wink.gif

Actually, I HATE plumbing - it always wins. but the tip about shifting an air-lock works.
POAC
Update: The damn thing was defective. I finally called a plumber to confirm it for me. We exchanged it, I installed it in one hour, and no problems. Yay!!!!!!!! I'll post the pics as soon as I can.

why are you using knuckle buster wrenches?
Does your tool box include a table knife screw driver and a shoe hammer? tongue.gif

Sky, i think we could sit around all night asking legitimate questions about what we see in these pictures but it is probably easier just to let them go.

YEP!

1) Yes, I had a basin wrench, but the wrenches at hand had better dramatic effect.
2) That thing on my shirt is a Christian/Muslim combo image that I created. Only makes sense, since I'm Buddhist.

So, my guess of "high-tech cheese grater" was pretty far off the mark.
