So the phone rang...
(an 800 number)
me: Hullo
them: Mr. Templeton, I'm, calling on behalf of the Children's' Cancer Fund of America. This isn't a sales call but I am asking if we could count on you for small donation. Our organization raises funds for the families of cancer stricken children to help pay more medical care, therapy, blah blah blah...
Me: I don't think I can do anything at this time but...
them: Well, you don't have to do anything. Would you be willing to make a pledge and then make a donation in 2-3 weeks?
me: Sure, let me check my finances. Can you hold on a few minutes?
them: Sure.
Me: What was the name of your organization again?
them: Childrens' Cancer fund of America
At this point I open up Google, google the organization, and come to the Sec of State of Washington's "Charitable Solicitations Program Charity Profile Report"
Me: OK, Are you still with me
them: Yes I am.
Me: OK, well the answer is no. Apparently only 12% of the money you raise goes to any kind of program and the rest goes to the administration.
Them: Wha... Wha... Who are you talking to?
Me: I'm looking at the Washington Secretary of State website. According to this, in fiscal year 2006 you raised $569,532 for the cancer stricken children and raised $5,059,886 foir the administrators.
Them: Um... can you hold on and speak to my supervisor?
Me: No *click*
Amazingly, this outfit has the same Kansas City mailing address as the phony Foundation for American Veterans that called me last time.
