I could have warn Obama...a lesson learn by John Kerry, the college students cannot be counted on when it "go vote" time. We all know that story from 2004, when Kerry was was suppose to have the college age crowd in the bag, only to lose when that didn't show up at the voting booths.

Now it looks like the same may have happen in New Hampshire, when it appears the two largest university students didn't vote.

I blame drugs and promiscuous sex.

Apathy and no public transport may be some of the problem. Was there a good concert on somewhere ?

The best way to attract college students is with free food.

Power to the pizza.

None taken. I don't care if others drink (responsibly) it's their decision.

Damn! I knew i forgot to do something.

I saw the apathy of the youth vote play out in 2004, first hand. I remember all around campus there were posters about political clubs, reminders about the debates, people handing our fliers; I thought my fellow students would be out in force on election day. Then i had a wake up call. On election day, in a few of my classes, the teachers said "raise your hand if you planning on voting today." There was a vast discrepancy between what I expected and what actually happened. Each time me and about 2 other people raised our hands. I think more people said "there is an election today?" than actually ended up voting. The first of many times i said "oh fuck" on that day.

This phenom is not new by any means.
We all know the history as written concerning the 60's. How thsoe years were filled with unrest and turmoil.
Fact is, most kids we "what he said, now pass that joint" kids. Most of the "history" was actually made by only a handful of people, while the vast majority didn't bother. Even the people shot and killed at Kent state were people who just came out to see what all the commotion was about, and not actual protesters.

Kids are kids. The only way to get most of them active is to appealto their own interests and desires.
Usually sex (the possibility of gettin laid) works even better than free beer (which hopefully leads to sex)
I think that's why open air political concerts work best. If they could just make the price of entry a ballot.

This is very true. I am proud to say that since I turned 18, I have voted in every election including primaries. (for the record, I am 35 now).

I distinctly remember in political science class in 91 or 92, a discussion where the class was bitching about the lack of choices in the general election. The professor said "everyone raise their hands. Anyone registered to vote keep your hands in the air, those not registered put your hands down." This took out over half the class.

The next thing he said was "Those of you with your hands up.....IF you voted in the primaries then keep your hands up, those that did not vote in the primary elections put your hands down now".

There were 2 of us with our hands left up. Prof then said....."Look around. I give the 2 students with their hands up permission to complain about their lack of choices in the general elections, as they actually went and voted in the primaries. The rest of you have no right to complain about your lack of choices if you do not actually participate"

Maybe not the exact words, but pretty damn close.

This is a political reality that must always be remembered.
ONE PERSON that actually gets involved can make a difference, because most of those that make noise don't actually do anything! The few people that do actually get involved can and will become the leaders, and baby, that's real power!
