Just wonmdering if anyone can tell me what I'm looking at. In the early hours of the morning Orion is just overhead with Mars directly above it. In the east, rises a big freakin' planet. I mean huge and bright. So big you can see the shape of it. Like a smaller brighter moon. What is that? I'm assuming Venus or Jupiter. Anyone know for sure?

Venus is up in the morning now. Must be her. Definitive test: Jupiter is yellowish, Venus pure white.

Yup. That's Venus. Thanks.

It's pretty cool to live in a place where you can see the stars like this. Where I grew up, the light pollution was so bad that the sky was orange at night.

Exact opposite for me. I grew up under the stars, but now I have to drive an hour or more to get a decent view.
