"It seems so strange to have our own country fighting us on this," said retired Air Force Col. David W. Eberly, the senior officer among the former POWs

Full Article

"No sooner had the POWs celebrated their victory than they came up against a new roadblock: Bush administration lawyers argued that the case should be thrown out of court on the grounds that Bush had voided any such claims against Iraq, which was now under U.S. occupation. The administration lawyers based their argument on language in an emergency bill, passed shortly after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, approving the expenditure of $80 billion for military operations and reconstruction efforts. One clause in the legislation authorized the president to suspend the sanctions against Iraq that had been imposed as punishment for the invasion of Kuwait more than a decade earlier."

Seems to me, Bush administration is doing a pre-emptive on law suits (war crimes) of this sort. AND any accountablity for thier OWN actions at Abu Ghraib. Any thoughts?

Accountability is a phobia for this administration. I'm not surprised at all, really.

Perhaps I am naive. But, I WUZ surprise. Not by BUSH, but by the audacity. It is soooo transparent what this is about. He/his administration is blocking this suit, in a similar manner as he/they put forth the concept nationwide cap on class action lawsuits (one of the few remaining vestiges of controls on power mongers – capitalism run amok – NOT that their aren’t some real hosed up issues and out lying data on that front!).

The Bush administration blocks the POW suit, b/c were it to got to court…..How would what WE did look? What precedent would it set? Same reason, Henry Kissinger does not leave the US that often these days.

“Don’t look at the man behind the curtain!”

Bush/Bush Admin “nixing” allowing the courts to follow through on the POW suit is not about “making nice” with “New Iraq” gov. It is about CYA.

They care NOTHING about those that “sign up”. They are pawns in their shallow scheme.
