Dave, Dave, Dave...

This story would be a lot more believable if you made the guy a natural-born American. Stupid lawsuits are an American invention (maybe with a little help from the English, Karen?). Here, if you find a fingernail in your hamburger, you get rich. Anywhere else in the world, you get a fresh hamburger... if you're lucky!

SPOT ON... American entrepreneurship run a muck. Mixed with two parts entitlement.

Of course not. But lots of American legal concepts are English-inspired, I just thought you might know whether there were multi-million pound "pain and suffering" awards over there where you are or if it's pure Americanism.

I know honey, was just playing. Double check your sentence structure and you'll see why. wink.gif
The law here changed about 7 - 10 years ago making more silly law suits possible, but I think there must be some sort of restrictions in place because we just don't have the levels of suits you seem to have over there, just your basic ambulance chasing and what not.
Makes for strict health and safety regulations every where you go, and it means that schools no longer take kids on day trips or let them out in the rain (FAR too dangerous!), oh, and it makes for a load of really boring adds. But, no, I don't think anyones got rich after scalding their tongue on a coffee at McDonalds so far.

Since england doesn't have the ridiculous medical bills, it seems likely that economic damages would be less astronomical. And since non-economic damages are frequently indexed to economic damages, those would also be smaller. Or something.
