Had Enough?
by WesClarkJr
Tue Jul 03, 2007

Enough of seeing the Constitution trashed? Enough of the corruption? Enough of the war? Enough of the gutless response of our elected Democratic representatives?

I don't think our reps read our e-mail or listen to our phone calls. Hell, they didn't even listen to the 2006 election in which we told them to stop the war. Scooter Libby is the last straw and I'm not going to take it anymore. I've had enough.

Cenk Uygur and I were talking this morning about what to do. We've decided it's time to tell America we've had enough. We'll be standing outside the Federal Building in West L.A. at the corner of Veteran and Wilshire for one hour this Sunday. If you'd like to join us, just wear a t-shirt or bring a sign that says you've had enough.

If you're not in L.A., just go to whatever the most common protest site is in your home city with a shirt or sign that says you've had enough from noon to one p.m. this Sunday. You don't have to march, chant, play drums, pass out pamphlets or build puppets (not that we're against those things). All you have to do is stand there with one word: enough.

Cenk and I don't care if we're the only two people there. We don't care because the next Sunday, each of us has pledged to bring two more people with us, and we'll ask them to make the same pledge. And we'll keep standing out there every single Sunday, doubling our numbers, from now until we've got so many people with us that we cannot be ignored.

So how about it? Have you had enough? Will you stand with us?

clap.gif
Just for one hour a week. Even if Sundays don't work, pick a day and do it. It's only for an hour.

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE... of sorts... en mass blink.gif .
Help wake up the people. Get involved.

Actually Karen, you could do it too. This concept isn't intended to be strictly American. I hear the Brits are clamping down hard on their own folk. HAD ENOUGH, YET? Maybe a different PM, but the PARTY is still the same.

I'm thinking of making it into a button... HAD ENOUGH?

You know what Max, you're right.
Could give those CCTV cameras all over the city something new to look at! What a great idea! Thank you Max... you've inspired me! wink.gif

Oh, and another thing, couldn't POAC make and supply the buttons (badges!) and t-shirts? How about it TJ? You could be at the epicentre of a new, peaceful, revolution. cool.gif

Whaddaya gonna dew?

How 'bout just sittin back an watching the scoundrels have a go at each other once the easy pickins' are over.

Gold, silver, copper, lead and even scrap metal is getting more valuable...or is the dollar dying?

Don't just "strike" for a day. Strike every day. save all those pennies and nickels - they won't loose their value and when king george doesn't have any cents, or nickels, people will have to question why.

Buy some simple tools, make your own bread, most of all don't consume!
Lawnmower broke? - hire the neighbor kid and pay him CASH!

CASH is the key to avoiding big brother's snooping on your life.

Make your own wine and trade it for stuff.

Pay your taxes, but just don't do stuff that incurs taxes. So much in life is free.

Downsize and free up your leisure time.

Enjoy life and don't be under the thumb of the greedy, immoral entity called Corporate America or their useful tools - religious America or the undead Republican suckas.

Most would be surprised what they could live without.
This is a consumer society. We no longer throw stuff away because it's broken or worn out.
Now we landfill prefectly good goods simply because we want the latest version!
Many people actually believe they're SUPPOSED to be in debt. That Debt is as American as apple pie.
We are a society that gets it's values 30 seconds at a time in between programming.

Could not agree more YYY. Great post - reflects my own lifestyle quite well.
Had my first go at growing my own veg this year, with varying degrees of success. Next year will see bumper crops if I can manage to implement the lessons I've learned this year! wink.gif

Gardening is great Karen, just don't get trapped into buying tillers and "stuff". I gave up on the gardening that is pushed in today's society - been gardening over 40 years. Get some sand and an old round bale of hay or two. You only need a hoe and a five tine "manure" fork. Put an inch or two of sand down, and lime it if you need lime in your area. Layer the hay about 6-9 inches thick. Don't get too much hay on or it may get dry on top and draw snakes - they don't like the damp hay though. Fall is a good time to stare, but you can start a garden anytime. Pull the hay back and plant seeds. Move the hay closer as plants grow. Use the 5-tine fork to lift the hay up and set it down again on the weeds as they grow. The hay will almost eliminate weeding and will rot and make fertilizer each year, plus it holds the moisture. So little expense and there is virtually no work this way. Just weed and water once in a while, as needed.

By the way, stocking up on silver seems to be a a bargain right now. It will surly take a jump as our dollar sinks. Any other ideas/strategies out there?

Stock up, but remember - What you don't have will protect what you do have.

better than hay, use compost. better for the soil when you turn it in the next spring
i would hope we're all composting.

There ya go again - "turn it in" - Work! The idea of using old hay (second crop that smells manurey works well), is that it is the compost you don't have to "turn" in. Plus the hay is a mat that stops most weeds.

Composting is what we need to be doing to this administration.

I turn off any radio or TV program when Bush/Cheney or Lying GOPers start blabbing too.

Maybe we should compost our money as well - Congressman: Dollar Could Collapse To Absolute Zero http://www.blacklistednews.com/view.asp?ID=4456

If you agree or not, I always turn my soil to keep it healthy.
Soil is a living eco system. Compost is one the the most effective, and organic ways to keep it healthy.

I'm not disagreeing at all, Sky. Just saying that the ecosystem does it all by itself, if you let it. You can compost by putting material under the hay and the worms will turn it for you. All those big Oak trees grew without turning the soil. Nature does fine without out our labors.

Why grow organic? Try this little experiment and you will see: Take a commercially grown NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potash) cucumber and put it in your frig along side a homegrown organic cucumber and wait a few days. The commercial cucumber will soon turn to a moldy, slimy mess, but the homegrown one will sit there for weeks, maybe shriveling up, but will not usually get moldy. This is the protection from disease that we put into our bodies.

Why compost?

First, if yer gardening and eating the fruits of your work, if you have trees and grass and weeds. If you buy the occasional banana, or have certain kitchen scraps, these all can be composted, FOR FREE. It can also be done with very little ambition or effort.

Why compost? First and main reason, is to avoid putting those things into a landfill.

Compost is also good for the soil. Nature has been doing it all along. In fact, soil is compost. Add minerals, nutrients, Microbes, bugs and other small critters to compost and that's soil. Adding your compost to the soil in effect, feeds the soil. Compost is NOT a fertalizer. Compost is a soil ammendment that adds the organic materials that feed the critters that live in your soil. If your soil has no critters, the plants either simply won't grow, or will be wide open to attack. The health of your soil can directly be measured by how many things live in it.

One reason among many that you don't wanna use pestacides and herbacides is because they kill or damage the soil.

Also, adding sand helps loosen the soil, but be careful with sand from the sea shore. It's very very salty. (alkaline)

Love your thinking, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to incororate all of your ideas into my own gardening, as I don't have a garden, as such...
I have a traditional English, small, concrete and brick back yard. I've built a raised bed out there and have got my hands on a load of containers of varying types (I even tried growing spuds in a large cardboard box I had laying around. Didn't work too well, but hey, at least I learned not to try that again! wink.gif). I grew tomatoes from seed, as well as carrots and spinach beet. The onions and a few other things didn't work out, but next year I hope to do better.
I may try to get my hands on some straw. - Looking for ways to keep the cats away, and straw might help. Cat's and snails are the main pests in my 'garden'. Snakes? Nah! Wrong side of the pond! laugh.gif

You asked about other ideas? I've got lots of ideas and recipes for bio-diesel, solar heaters, growing stuff, making stuff... Click the This Word Matters banner in my signature and you'll find yourself in my forum. There's a whole section on self-sufficiency, that you may be interested in, and there's a load more links there that I think you might like too. thumbup.gif
