Remove ALL machines from elections.

The problems in Florida 2000 did not come from paper ballots. They came from stand-alone ballot marking machines (hanging and dimpled chads, the butterfly ballot) where people were not allowed to mark their own ballots but had a machine doing it for them.

We the People of the United States of America hereby demand that ALL machines be removed from our elections. We prefer to mark our own ballots ourselves with pencils or pens, and to count them ourselves in full public view at the precincts to eliminate corruption.

We neither want nor need expensive machines that can be unevenly distributed, break down, have paper jams, miscount votes, lose votes, or cast a cloud of doubt over a hand count and permit the election to be decided by the courts or by experts.

So say we all.

Gadzooks!
One and all!

I just read this AM about several Ohio counties that are gonna scrap the machines.
This seems to be a trend nationally, though there are some holdouts. (Repug counties)

I would remind all of us that Oregons Voter turn out was 71% and Washingtons was 64.5%.
Both of these states had very high voter participation, and both of these states had vote by mail, which is easy and includes a paper ballot!

I think nationally it's time to give this voting method some consideration.

Security Of Electronic Voting Is Condemned
Paper Systems Should Be Included, Agency Says
By Cameron W. BarrWashington Post Staff Writer

Paperless electronic voting machines used throughout the Washington region and much of the country "cannot be made secure," according to draft recommendations issued this week by a federal agency that advises the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.
The assessment by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, one of the government's premier research centers, is the most sweeping condemnation of such voting systems by a federal agency.

Thanks you guys. HCPBs. That's "H"and "C"ounted "P"aper "B"allots. Pen and paper. I prefer pencil. Election reform isn't my favorite subject. But when I see what has become of the elections, I just can't believe my own eyes. I'm not a software guru, but 15 years in a software R&D dept. at Honeywell taught me to never trust a machine that runs on software. First off, it will always have bugs...because software is never 100% clean. Secondly, the machine can be programmed to do all kinds of tricks. That's the neat part of R&D, the tricks the programmers come up with when the little kid in them sticks his head out for a sec to see what he can get away with. Lastly, I know first hand how easy it is to swap software programs that are run off of EEPROMs or the likes. But without going further into pilly pally details, let me just say this....

it used to be fair. We used to take our time. And we knew first hand that everything was correct.

Technology is neat. It's fun. But we really don't need it running our lives. And we sure as hell don't need machines to do the work real people with real hands can do.

Thanks again. Come on everyone....sign the petition. Let's get this rolling !

The petition author set a goal of 6 million sigs. I think we can be thankful if we get 6000. So please spread the word, pass the link along and help us by doing your bit. This is one way we can try to take the country back.
