If Ford had beat Carter in 1976, odds are the democrats would have taken the presidency in 1980. If they had won two elections, then there is no way that Reagan would have become president(he was getting pretty sick by the end of the 80's). That would have meant no neo-con movement, no George W. Bush.

There was no way of knowing that the Iran Hostage thing was going to happen in 1979, and I'm not so sure Ford would not have simply been a puppet of Rummy and Cheney (they were in Nixon AND Ford Administrations at the time).:
