Did the Dems have any hope whatsoever that this resolution would succeed? Not hardly. This resolution had about as much chance as a man wearing a porkchop suit in a lion's cage. So why in hell did the Dems waste their time and the Senate's time with it? Aren't there more important things that they could be doing?
ResistanceInOceania
Yeah, they did have hope because a lot of people want him fired for several justified reasons. In my view they acted acordingly, and didn't waste any time at all. Thats the best thing theve done in a while. At least they tried, and im sure they wil move to make it happen soon.
Captain America
They can't force him to resign, unfortunately. But the this vote of "no-confidence" is very unique and if nothing else this unusual move by the democrats might prompt the public to take a look at Rumsfeld's performance as SecDef. Just pick an issue, in the majority of instances I can tell you how he fucked it up.

His supporters support him for all of the wrong reasons, loyalty, his performance in front of the White House Press Corps, everything except for what he should be judged on. His strategic decisions, his guidance and overall leadership in Iraq. In that regard he has been a failure.

He's had his shot. If he won't step down he's going to have to be pushed out. In this, I support the Democratic efforts.
POAC
Yup, I'm with Cap'n on that. At the very least it serves to focus the public eye on Rummy and who still defends him. The only guy less popular than Rummy is Cheney. So if you can force the Rummy supporters to stand up and be counted, you just forced those same folks to provide the public with a reason to vote against them in the upcoming elections. It also says to the public "See, if we had a democratic legislature, this nimrod would be sent packing".

Ya know, you don't have to work at being a doofus.

Have you ever thought in terms of Politics, Positioning and the National Elections 8 weeks away?
Have you considered that this move, even if it failed which nearly every Democrat expected because they don't hold the floor, that just the fact that they have gotten the idea once again into the MSM and into 100 million living rooms, that they have succeeded quite well in labeling and relabeling Bush's Iraq policy as a failure?

Then, assuming what nearly everybody is assuming, the Democrats manage to take back some control of Congress, THEN maybe they will once again ask this very same question, and since in 2 or 3 or 4 months nothing has improved in Iraq or the war on Terra or Americans perceived safety, Then perhaps the question will have a quite different outcome?

How come you winger supporters never seem to know how to play chess?
If you can't drink it or fuck it or beat the crap out of it, you don't have a clue.

Mr. Sky, I wish that Rummy would disappear too. His time has obviously come and gone. That said, I still think that this Dem action was a waste of time cuz they were merely preaching to the choir. Those who support their actions will continue to do so and the other side will continue to support Rumsfeld. This political stunt is not gonna convert anyone. Is it any wonder that the public's approval rating for the job Congress is doing is even lower than Bush's rating? Both sides should be worried about that fact, very worried.

Of course you wish he were gone. Also Bush and his little dog too!

Why? Because these guys are totally screwing the right winger party!
Too bad! YOU voted for them, they're YOUR pResident and company!
4 years ago you wingers wanted to add his bust to Mt Rushmore!
Sorry, but I do not feel bad for you!

I don't know sky. I honestly think that if Bush had a completely different cabinet, and a different VP that he might have turned out to be a fantastic president.

Problem is, he is surrounded by neocon idiots who gave him shitty counsel, there were one or two guys no longer in the cabinet who tried to talk some sense into him before Iraq, but they couldn't win his ear. Bush's is so loyal that it is going to end up being his downfall. Now, he's in too deep to extricate himself from Iraq, stuck with a strategy that won't work, too damn stubborn to shit or get off the pot.

Buzz Off, the vote of no confidence wasn't designed to actually remove Rumsfeld. It was designed to focus attention on his performance. If the hue and cry spreads far enough and is loud enough, a message will appear on the president's bathroom wall. "Rumsfeld sucks, fire him."

Unfortunately, because Bush IS WHO HE IS, this is who he gots!
No one is twisting his arm to appoint the people he does, and they've all been disaster after disaster!
Name me just one Bush appointee who has actually been good for the country and wasn't actually a Bushco bootlicker??

GW Bush has never in his life been a successful man. Even the baseball team he owned had to be saved.
Time and a again his daddies buds in the Carlyle group saved his absolutely intellectually average ass, because Bush couldn't find his way out of a paper bag!

Cap'n! Jeez man? You must not be paying attention. To assume that Bush could possibly be anything other than exactly what he is, with exactly the same outcome, it to live in denial. As if to say that YOU didn't vote for the wrong guy, he just let ya down is all. That's a personal deception, the same sort that got us where we are today, in deep Bushco shit!

Sorry Cap'n, but YOU voted for him, he's YOUR pResident. Lets just hope you choose better next time eh?

Democrats are likely to have no more luck in forcing
a vote on Rumsfeld in the House, where Republican
leaders keep tight control over floor debate.

That says in a single paragraph the Number 1 reason to vote in November for who ever has the best chance to beat the Republican Candidate.

Sorry but I feel bad for you cuz you're so fuckin' off base with your silly and totally baseless assumptions about me and others whom you've foolishly attacked. If you had bothered to read my previous posts, you would know that I've been an Independent voter for many years. And, for the record, I voted for third party candidates in the previous two elections. So, in the future, before you start mindlessly attacking people for no good reason, I would advise you to get your facts straight before you make yourself look like a fool once again.

Oopsie, guess I touched a nerve.

As an Indy, seems you helped to elect the man indirectly, didn't you?
Question?
2000 and 2004, for President, whom did you vote for?

BTW, I am not the one here that looks like a fool, Mr Sensative. bawling.gif
Have a nice day!

You got something against independent voters who vote with their minds and not for a certain candidate just because some fucked up major political party told them to?
